Jet washing our pathway

We want to jet wash our garden path but our neighbour has parked his van right up against our hip high shrubbery which surrounds our garden. He has a full driveway himself but has left it empty to park where he has. It actually feels really intrusive as We have quite a small hedge surrounding our property and it's a large van so it's just there, right in our sight line wherever we are. If we jet wash the path it will probably splash his van. We have asked him not to park there previously as its also near the entrance of the estate and is quite dangerous, blocking people's view as they're driving in and making it difficult for neighbours close by to get their cars out of their drives but he ignores us. We've also had issues with him parking on the path right outside our gate, often blocking it completely. Would you just jet wash and feel.like it's hard lines if his van gets dirty?

Wash it, then wash any splashes off his van.

BakelikeBertha · 21/04/2025 18:09

If you've already asked him not to park there OP, of course it's not unreasonable if while washing your path his van gets wet, and if he says anything about it, I'd tell him just that.

Glitchymn1 · 21/04/2025 18:11

It’s only water, go for it.

Energe · 21/04/2025 18:17

We need a diagram. Including where the hose will be

Ereerenownow · 21/04/2025 18:27

Hi diagram attached. Hope it makes sense. The path we want to jetwash is kind of an ornamental pathway which runs around the length of the hedge inside our garden. It will be so close to his van if we jetwash.

I’d just tell him out of courtesy that you’re going to jet wash and if he doesn’t move it, that’s on him if it gets dirty.

GabriellaMontez · 21/04/2025 18:30

If you make a mess of someone else's drive or car while you're cleaning your own - you need to then clean theirs.

If you damage his van, you're responsible.

The rest of the stuff about visibility etc may be annoying but it's not relevant to this.

Ereerenownow · 21/04/2025 18:34

So, genuine question, if he refuses to move his van (he's got form for this), am I still liable if his van gets dirty?

If he's actually parked on a footpath OP, then he would definitely have no come back on you, as he shouldn't be parked there anyway.

He used to park on the path until finally after many months of requests from myself and other residents, he started parking where he is now, right up against my property. The footpath kind of peeters out into nothing and turns into the road into the estate. He is right on the start of the road as it comes into the estate.

It’s tough shit if it gets dirty and he’s chosen not to move it.

LillyPJ · 21/04/2025 18:51

No - I'd tell him I want to jet wash so he has a chance to move the van. That's just being polite If he doesn't want to move it, then go ahead. In general, he can park where he likes on his own drive.

He doesn't park on his drive.

Just let him know you’ll be jet washing the pavement at xx time in case he wants to move his van. It really doesn’t have to be a big deal.

I know, but I'm a little afraid of him to be honest and hate having any interactions with him. He was really arsey with me when he was asked not to park on the path previously

He doesn't park on his drive.

Thanks. I misread the OP. Of course, if it's a public road, he's still allowed to park there but it does seem inconsiderate.

lactofree · 21/04/2025 19:10

If you have the correct attachment for jetwashing block paving it won’t make any mess

Not only that, it’s about three times faster too

BakelikeBertha · 22/04/2025 09:58

If you don't like speaking to him OP, just put a note through his door.

JustJoinedRightNow · 22/04/2025 10:07

Just wash the path and then hose the van off. My DH did this to our neighbour's car who insists on parking directly in front of our house despite having a driveway and a whole spot in front of their own house. They didn't notice/care that their car had possibly had muck splash up on it which was then washed off.
