Delivery drivers not following instructions

3 times this week I have had deliveries arrive and the drivers have ignored the VERY clear instructions for delivery.
I had closed off my letterbox because my dog hates things coming through. It’s boarded off inside and taped off outside. Over it is a big notice saying please put post and parcels in the box next to the front door. Literally right next to it!
Delivery instructions also direct them to the box and clearly state nothing through the letterbox please. Both have my phone number on as well.

Yet driver 1 still tries to push something through the door. When that didn’t work he threw it into the front garden and walked off. Item got soaking wet.

Driver 2 pulls the hazard tape off the door and leaves the parcel wedged in the letterbox.

I then re tape up the letterbox only for the third driver to do exactly the same but with more force which knocked out the boarding inside.

Fortunately nothing is damaged but seriously 🤷🏻‍♀️ None of the items were signed for or high value. All would have easily fitted in the box. Box is a simple really useful black box so not locked or difficult to use. I just can’t fathom why people are completely incapable of following basic instructions or using common sense.
AIBU here?

ps Dog is nowhere near the door nor able to get near the door so not a risk to the postmen but she gets distressed by the noise especially if I’m not home.

I’d photograph the damage each time along with the clear instructions you’ve left and complain to the parcel company’s customer services. Same or different delivery company each time?

Often delivery drivers aren’t from the UK originally- perhaps they can’t read English? Add photo instructions?

Well the hazard tape is s clue in any language

The drivers very often don't get any delivery instructions you've added when placing orders. Is the box secure? They don't know what they're delivering so are probably concerned about items going missing or being stolen. I think very often they don't read signs either.

The problem is that nobody gives a shit even if you complain. Not that speaking to a human is possible in most cases anyway.
Incompetence is apparently quite acceptable. Drives me mad.

Your problem is the sign is above the letterbox. Screw the letterbox shut and put the sign on the actual letterbox. Lots of people tape their letterbox down because they bang in the wind, it’s very common to have to undo tape so they are on automatic pilot , they often miss a sign on the actual door . Screw it shut and no more problems

I'd be delighted if any delivery driver tried to use my letter box.
Most of them don't even seem to understand the concept of 'delivery'.
Standing on the pavement and lobbing it somewhere over the front boundary seems to be the standard.

My main office door is down the side of the building down a small driveway. The street address is, say, 12A, with the doors of 12 and 12B fronting the street. All three doors have big numbers on their doors.

For amazon purchases, I have "door in driveway to the side" as part of the address, yet the drivers still abandon the parcels in gardens of neighbouring houses. It's literally line 2 of the address label, but they still ignore it!

Not only don't they notice the difference between 12A and 12 or 12B, they completely ignore the "driveway to the side" address line.

They either can't read or don't care.

Some Royal Mail posties can be just as bad. Our letters clearly addressed to our business name and 12A are often posted through the letterboxes of 12 and 12B. It's maddening. Especially when one of them is away for a week or two and we've had important/time sensitive letters put through their letterboxes and can't access them.

The only ones who are generally good are Evri and DPD, whom for both we seem to have a permanent driver in our village, so it's almost always the same person, who actually reads the address label and knows where we are.

It's not that difficult! We even have a couple of hanging signs with the business name, one down the drive and one at the front with an arrow pointing down the drive!

businessflop25 · 22/04/2025 18:10

If I stick the sign over the letterbox it’s below waist height so not as easy to read. The massive sign on the front door in red print at eye level is very clear 😂

Just come home to find yet another parcel on top of the parcel box. 🤷🏻‍♀️
surely being able to read English should be a basic requirement for most jobs especially delivery drivers reading addresses?

I’ve had one in my bin today. I’m in. Have been all day, no attempt to deliver

CoffeeBeansGalore · 22/04/2025 18:25

I had a DPD driver walk past my front door, down the driveway & break the gate lock to leave a parcel in the shed. I am disabled so can't move quickly.
But I got outside & gave him an earful. The reason I have a big locked gate is to keep in a big dog. His excuse was he didn't know the area????
I said that was no excuse to not even knock on the door he walked past.
Bloody idiot.
I rang DPD & lodged a formal complaint but they didn't bother emailing the required form, despite being on the phone for over 30 minutes & giving three different members of staff my correct email address. Absolutely useless.

This is the problem isn’t it. There’s not point complaining anymore because nothing changes. It seems the past few years (particularly since covid it seems) 💩 customer service seems to be the norm.
