Night terrors or sleep talking?

Sorry to post here, but I wanted most traffic…

My 3.5 is very vocal in her sleep. Most nights a couple of hours after she goes to bed she will shout out in her sleep. Usually sounding like she’s arguing with someone or shouting ‘no!’ or ‘I don’t want to!’

im not sure if this is a night terror or she is just having a bad dream? Sometimes she will wake up after and call out for one of us, but otherwise she stays asleep.

I would hate to think she is sad or something is upsetting her and it’s coming out subconsciously?! Can a three year old do that?!

IABU - Sleep talking
IANBU - Night terrors

Thank you!

Also, she isn’t very well at the moment and it has been much more frequent this weekend. She’s had a high temp (41) and we’ve been in hospital, so no idea if this is linked?!

Night terrors are totally different. Child screaming in their sleep and can't be woken.

It just sounds like sleep talking, which is very common. Nothing in your OP really sounds like night terrors.

Night terrors are marked out by lots of fear responses, screaming, shouting, thrashing around, appearing awake while asleep etc.

Sounds from what you describe your DC is just sleep talking.

My dd used to have frequent night terrors - appeared to be wide awake and petrified, would walk around talking in a jumbled manic way and often sweating with fear. Very hard to wake her out of it and in fact the advice is not to. Absolutely horrible things- lasted up to probably age 10. Over-tiredness was definitely a trigger.
Your little one sounds just like they're sleep talking.
