Does anyone actually still do spring cleaning?

I’ve ended up doing a proper tidy and clear-out the last few weeks but it wasn’t planned — it just kind of aligned with the whole “spring cleaning” vibe. Is it still a thing people consciously do? Or is it more of a leftover tradition no one actually follows?

More sunshine shows up the dust and cobwebs, and we have more energy this time of year to clear away winter mess and tidy the house/plant stuff out in the garden. Not just me as our council recycling tip has been full all week and not accepting any refuse.
Hooray for sunshine!

I change the duvets from the heavy ones to light ones and change the rug/cushion covers to the lighter coloured ones too. I also move the winter coats/boots to the wardrobe in the spare room.

That's the full extent.

I do, but not really deliberately. It just kinda happens.

AcquadiP · 20/04/2025 12:53

I find when the clocks go forward, my energy levels soar, I snap out of my winter sloth ways and set about sorting things out (keep/charity shop/bin) and deep cleaning everything. I've booked a week's annual leave next week for this purpose😇😅

Maitri108 · 20/04/2025 12:54

I do and have been doing for a while. I also do a deep clean at Christmas.

DisapprovingSpaniel · 20/04/2025 12:55

I do tend to deep clean the carpets and sofas etc - mainly because they’ve become a bit muckier after the winter weather.

Itchybritches · 20/04/2025 13:13

Yes, I do a deeper Spring clean, but it takes place over four weekends as I work full time and don’t have a cleaner. I see it as airing the house ready for better weather and being more sociable.

We do. It’s in preparation for DIY

Tagyoureit · 20/04/2025 13:21

Yes!!

And the house definitely needs it after 2 weeks of the kids being home and me not doing as much because they're around and we've been out a lot. Every time I turn around there seems to be a new smudge of dirt, paint or food on the wall, on the windows, on the floor, handles!! And now today, there's chocolate on the carpet on the stairs but my ds swears blind it wasn't him even though he's the only one to have taken chocolate upstairs!! 🤦‍♀️

Order needs to be restored and the cobwebs that the sunshine seems to find oh so well need dusting!

Also been touching up all the scuff marks in the hallway and up the stairs and washed all the throws and cushion covers whilst our Easter lunch cooks. DC have put all their decluttered stuff in the car boot so I can get rid of it on tuesday. We've earned todays roast lunch for sure!

Surely skirting gets very dirty if you don't wash it down annually? The water is always black when I do mine every spring. I do each room and the cobwebs and dirt is unbelievable.

Augustus40 · 20/04/2025 14:38

Me and ds declutter as we go as we are both tidy.

I have a policy with clothes books and cds. Anything that is bought something has to be donated to the charity shop. Stops the house overflowing.

PassingStranger · 21/04/2025 12:01

I wash the nets does that count?

dudsville · 21/04/2025 12:03

I love spring cleaning, or rather it makes me feel better about my home and helps me keep on top of things. I do it twice a year, one in November before the christmas things go up Dec 1st, and one spring time.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 21/04/2025 12:34

I clean the windows as the sun shines, showing up how dirty they are, but that’s all
