To let my sensitive dd watch that Hollyoaks smut?

I'm on the verge of banning it. Continual filth, smut and bad vibes. They tried to sweeten the pill this evening by playing some gentle Smiths song in the background. But it won't wash.

What should the age limit be for Hollyoaks?

16 +

CrackerOfNuts · 16/05/2008 19:11

Not sure tbh.

I don't watch it but think some of the storylines I have heard about are really only suitable for 14+ maybe ?

I make the dd's switch over when it comes on.

pointydog · 16/05/2008 19:11

Really? lol

You should watch it, cracker. Then tell me what you think.

Why is it on at 6.30?

its aimed at teenagers.

pointydog · 16/05/2008 19:17

I do think 16 is overdoing it.

Well, yeah maybe nowadays before definatly 14+

LadyOfWaffle · 16/05/2008 19:22

before = but

pointydog · 16/05/2008 19:27

dd2 getting sucked in to it - she is 9

OP posts:
LadyOfWaffle · 16/05/2008 19:33

woo, I am pretty relaxed about stuff like that (plus I love hollyoaks ) but I do think 9 is too young - it's the approach of it all, they can be quite gritty.

theAfkaUrbanDryad · 16/05/2008 19:35

lmao at trying to sweeten the pill with the Smiths!

I'm assuming it wasn't "Girlfriend In A Coma" or "Still Ill"?

I'm very laissez-faire, janny.

Yes, dryad. It was
Please please please ,
let meeee get what I want
let me get what I want, this time (as horrible spiralling-into-madness character was held down in his cell)

But it was a dreadful cover version.

pointydog · 16/05/2008 19:41

However, I do think I might have to censor this one. Maybe

pointydog · 16/05/2008 19:42

I mean, dd2 had to turn away and look out the window when the gay priest finally snogged and romped about half-clad with the bloke he fancies.

theAfkaUrbanDryad · 16/05/2008 19:47

Shouldn't be on before the watershed IMO, and i'm no Mary Whitehouse.

And I hate hate hate that it's on on Sunday afternoons!

lollipopmother · 16/05/2008 20:10

I love Hollyoaks but I wouldn't let a child watch it, definitely not for a 9 y/o to be watching, but then I don't think any of the soaps really are, all of them revolve around families 'going through something', there's never any happiness, always shouting. I used to watch Neighbours when I was young and that never seemed anywhere near as bad as Eastenders and the likes are now.

pointydog · 16/05/2008 21:01

Ok. Will try to wean dd2 off Hollyoaks next week.

OP posts:
CrackerOfNuts · 16/05/2008 21:49

Dd1 is 10 and not allowed to watch it.

I actually would like to watch it, but it would mean sending the dd's out of the room LOL.

petetong · 16/05/2008 22:04

My dd 12 has just become hooked. I really don't like it and think that it should be on after the watershed, but then I think the same about eastenders.
