Why are new laws not published and drivers not informed. New law fine for smart watch wearers. Are they making up laws to fine drivers DVLA should be responsible on some sites but others say drivers should be responsible what a joke

I would have assumed that watches are like phone anyway - voice command OK.

Gimpee · 18/04/2025 01:43

It's not clear on rules new rules come in constantly these should be sent to drivers as notifications

It's the drivers responsibility to keep up to date on the law.
Changes are made public & well publicized prior to coming in to force.

You could sign up to updates from DVLA.

That's just a daft suggestion. It's up to the licence holdre to keep themselves up to date.

LlynTegid · 18/04/2025 07:38

I agree it is the licence holder's responsibility. I would like them to prove it by requiring the theory test to be taken at regular intervals, say every five years.

I agree it's on the driver but haven't seen any new laws apart from the priority for pedestrians a while ago and I dont think they were that widely promoted.

Not seen anything else, especially about watches?

Lioncubhearted · 18/04/2025 08:14

Wouldn't a smart watch be covered by mobile device rules?

Zonder · 18/04/2025 08:14

What new law regarding smart watches are you talking about? If it's the fact that you can't use a smart watch while driving, I would think that was obvious since you can't use a phone or other device.

AgnesX · 18/04/2025 08:19

Ignorance is no defence of the law. Apart from prissy remarks however there's usually enough discussion in the media.

Maybe the idea of keeping your hands on the wheel and your attention on the road shouldn't be a novelty.

It's not even a new law. It's the same as using any other electronic devices that receives data eg smartphone.
There's no specific law for smart watches.

I don't think it's new, it's just being reiterated, mines in the driving mode anyway, as my phone is

So you don't drive and you've started a post about a new law that doesn't exist, and that actually is common sense?

Do you have a plan for how the DVLA would go about communicating this notnew law to drivers?

Do you also think the government should contact all affected people personally about every new law?
