For missing this meeting at work?

I work 9-6 everyday, Monday to Friday. Last week I was told by my boss that I was required at 8pm to put something live on our platform. The task should have taken 30 mins max but I ended up online until 12am as various things went wrong (which I had warned my boss about potentially happening prior but she insisted we move ahead with it).

anyway, next day I had to log back online at 7am as there was still stuff to fix and I am working with time differences so had to catch the other team in Asia. I worked from 7am to 2:30pm and then ended up getting a really terrible headache. I had meetings for the rest of the day, and my boss asked me if I was going to attend them. I said no I was logging off. I had not put a deck together for one of them (because I was dealing with the issue for the past day, which the boss knew!) and boss seems annoyed that one) I am missing the meeting and two) I didn’t put the deck together. The meeting nor the deck were regarding anything urgent and considering I’d gone above and beyond the usual hours and job requirements, I thought my boss might be a bit more sympathetic!

AIBU to be a little annoyed at this reaction? This isn’t the first time I have done tasks above my pay grade/job description.

Hi OP - I can totally get where you’re coming from as you’ve gone above and beyond. Perhaps next time you should have spoken to boss and said - as I was up until midnight and worked over my hours, plus headache etc, would it be OK to miss the meeting. I will ensure the deck is completed tomorrow……

There are two separate issues: asking you to work above regular working hours. Fair enough and it should have been recognised better.

As a manager however, I still would have asked for a handover of the meetings if you couldn't attend for sickness. The deck should have ready at least 24-48h before the meeting and not been put together on the day.

I was only asked to put the deck together the day before!

Meetings can be recorded so you can listen when you are in better shape. Also a manager who plans ahead would help.

I don't think you were unreasonable but it might have been better to proactively let her know you'd be logging off early and not attending the meeting before she asked. Would probably have landed better.
