To think £10 isn't enough?

DS is going to be given a lift, which will be a 30-mile round trip.

Does £10 cover the fuel cost AND the goodwill of the driver, who is doing him a big favour?

Thanks

He’s not a taxi service so yea it’s enough. He can always say no.

ProudOtter · 16/04/2025 13:12

£10 and some snacks for the way :)

BaconMassive · 16/04/2025 13:34

You can’t charge a relative private hire prices!!

Nobody has charged a relative anything

Depends. Is the person going there anyway or is he/she just helping out?

They're going there anyway

If they're going there anyway then £10 is enough.

I was referring to @PassingStrangerwho paid an extortionate amount for a taxi and I said relative because you didn’t say who they were, no offence meant

Then 10 is largely enough. I wouldn't take it but it's nice to atleast offer.

Ok, thanks. £10 it is

Seems fair.

In my car, petrol is currently 20p a mile, and a 30 mile round trip would cost £6. So £10 is very fair for me.

ValentinesGranny · 16/04/2025 18:04

£10 is tight. That would cost me money to do you a favour.

MaMaMaMaBaker · 16/04/2025 18:11

It really depends on the vehicle as to how much fuel it's going to use, but for argument's sake let's say it's 12 litres per 100 miles. Round it up to 4 litres for 30 miles at £1.40 a litre (fuel prices will vary but call it that) comes in at £5.60.

Even a car that uses a lot of fuel would take maybe 16 litres per 100 miles. That's still going to come in at way under a tenner for 30 miles.

A tenner is fine, don't worry.

I think any contribution is very nice. I have done 2 long drives this week. I brought 4 people with me on the first and 2 other people on the second journey.
None of them offered a penny towards petrol or tolls.
The trips cost me around €150.
