AIBU for having mum guilt pre baby about not being religious with taking pregnacare

I am sure I’m being silly but I can’t help but worry / feel really guilty that I’ve barely taken the basic pregnacare tablets this pregnancy. I’m 11 weeks and have been really struggling with nausea and I keep forgetting to take them. Wasn’t taking folic acid pre pregnancy as it was a bit of a surprise 😊

I took folic acid pre-pregnancy for DD and was religious with taking the pregnacare max until 12 weeks maybe more!

I am feeling so guilty already but please tell me I’m being ridiculous?

Is there a time in the day when you're most likely to keep them down? Try setting a daily alarm on your phone.

When I read your title I was confused and thought taking pregnacare went against your religion lol

I keep them on my bedside table so when I go to sleep I (in theory) take it but I’ve forgotten the last few nights and have only just realised. I was worrying they were making me feel more sick but I don’t know if they actually are

You're not being ridiculous to feel guilty, no; it's in your baby's best interests to take them. Use that guilt to do something productive and set an alarm to remind you to take them.

I voted YABU. Sorry.

Women have been having babies for thousands of years all across the globe without taking a slew of pregnancy supplements. And most have been fine.

Women in developing countries don't have access to basic public health and antenatal care, and still mostly manage to produce healthy babies.

You'll be fine.
Just get into a routine.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 15/04/2025 17:42

I remember a few fellow mums blaming pregnacare for their nausea (not sure how true that actually is) so they took seven seas instead. Like the PP said above, set your phone alarm.

MaleficentQueen · 15/04/2025 18:01

I threw up a fair few of my Pregnacare vitamins, and my little girl was just fine. Just take them when you can, just one a day, and try not to panic. If you’re sick, don’t panic, but don’t take another one.

Mushroo · 15/04/2025 20:27

Gently you really don’t need them. The nhs only advises vitamin D and folic acid.

so take them as best you can but as a pp says, babies have been born for hundreds of years with no supplements

BlondeMummyto1 · 15/04/2025 20:28

I never took any pregnancy vitamins and my daughter is healthy.

As long as you’ve been taking folic acid then I wouldn’t worry about it. The folic acid is the important thing in the first trimester, the rest baby will get from you if you’ve got a decent diet. I wouldn’t feel guilty.

But the OP specifically says she didn’t take folic acid as it was not a planned pregnancy.

Panterusblackish · 15/04/2025 20:37

Op I didn't know i was pregnant until past 3 months.

I was only very young and my uni diet consisted of mainly peanuts and booze.

My son is absolutely fine.

Go easy on yourself, no one is perfect.

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 15/04/2025 20:38

I had hypemesis so I couldn’t even keep down water. Just take them when you can.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 15/04/2025 23:30

Please don’t be hard on yourself. If you can’t tolerate Pregnacare perhaps try a different brand. Firstly try whenever you feel you can keep it down
i only took folic acid during mine, and started only when I had a positive pregnancy test.
All 3 were born healthy and continue to be as adults

lunaemma · 15/04/2025 23:56

I mean I’m not recommending it but my colleague drank a lot, partied and drugs too. She went to the doctors for back pain she had been moaning about for ages. The doctor said it was the baby.. her “what bloody baby?!”
She gave birth 3 days later and he’s now 19 (and more sensible than she was at that age!)
