to think that I'm aging too quickly?

At what age would you think I am if I tell you that I prefer an afternoon tea to going out for dinner. I always wear the comfortable shoes and have weetabix for breakfast. I go to the garden centre for coffee & cake, I'm planning to start to do 'walks' for fun. I stopped dying my hair 3 years ago, and we're contemplating getting a caravan (tourer). I like toffee and fudge and find that toiletries and hampers are now a nice present to receive. I am missing 4 teeth (probably the toffee & fudge!).

This has all happened in the last 3-4 years - maybe the lockdowns sped things along, who knows? - I'm 52 and think that I've probably been middle-aged for most of my life.

Have I hit old lady mode too soon?

YABU - long live the rich tea biscuits and electric blanket
YANBU - give your head a wobble and return to party mode

Why are you losing teeth? That's a worry

MaMaMaMaBaker · 15/04/2025 16:17

I think you should do whatever makes you happy and sod what anyone else thinks about it

Mumsntfan1 · 15/04/2025 16:18

You sound much older than me, I'm 49. But as long as you're happy why does it matter!

Whitetruck · 15/04/2025 16:20

How old are your children? I definitely was old before my time in my 30s and 40s but since I've had the freedom and fewer demands (more energy) that come with children growing up, I feel, look and behave younger in my 50s

peppermintcrumble · 15/04/2025 16:21

Your voting options are the wrong way round!

500mileslong · 15/04/2025 16:24

Horribly stereotypical and ageist post op 🙄

Resilience · 15/04/2025 16:24

Nothing wrong with anything you’ve posted other than losing your teeth - get your oral health sorted as there are links to heart disease and strokes. They’re just your personality. I like a lot of those things too but I was also dancing to 3am on the weekend so 🤷‍♀️ Embrace the garden centre I say!

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 15/04/2025 16:30

I prefer afternoon tea as I've a sweet tooth and much prefer cakes to mains (i look at the puddings first).

I have Weetabix for breakfast as I like them and have been eating them for as long as I can remember, especially nice with homemade apple sauce.

I also walk for fun, it can be quite therapeutic to be outside with nature.

I'm 47 and definitely not old.

Moonnstars · 15/04/2025 16:30

I thought we were going to have to guess and I was going to say late 30s (same as me!).
There are definitely elements of your post that I already am in agreement with (stopped dying my hair, will go out with my friend for a walk to catch up, love an afternoon tea, don't like late nights) so therefore if you think you are old before your time then I definitely am!
I don't want a caravan however and nothing could persuade me that they are a good idea 😂
I do also have all my teeth still (though the cost of seeing a dentist could impact that).

justkeepswimingswiming · 15/04/2025 16:31

I was about to say late 30s. 😂

AprilBunny · 15/04/2025 16:35

I don’t know but it’s worth looking after your teeth.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 15/04/2025 16:35

The teeth are the only part that is remotely concerning.

DappledThings · 15/04/2025 16:36

I'd have ticked most of these boxes at 35 and not considered them particularly ageing.

No problems with my teeth though. Get those sorted.

Newname25 · 15/04/2025 16:40

I was going to guess mid 60s! I'm 48 and while I do enjoy some of the things you've mentioned I also enjoy a cocktail in the evening with friends!

AbigfanofDogs · 15/04/2025 16:47

I’m 31 and feel the same way, you do you!

Rycbar · 15/04/2025 16:49

Literally the only negative thing in your post is the losing teeth. Im 34 and have enjoyed all of those since my mid 20s (apart from the caravan - can’t stand those but that’s not an age thing!)

MeAndMyCatCharlotte · 15/04/2025 16:50

Surely these are just personal preferences and nothing to do with age. I know 25 year olds that enjoy doing the things listed in the OP.

butterdish93 · 15/04/2025 16:56

Apart from the loss of teeth, I like all those things and I’m more than 20 years younger than you. I don’t associate the things you’ve said with a particular age group.
