Taking grandchildren abroad.

I know it’s not aibu, but it’s the fastest moving board. We are taking grandchildren to turkey next month and someone mentioned a letter of consent from parents. Has anyone done this and taken the letter ? It’s no biggie if I need one, just wanted to get it covered. Thanks .

I think I would do it just in case. Better to have and not need than to need and not have and all that.

Officially you need one, yes. You may not get stopped and asked but if you do it will be much easier if you have it. As it’s Turkey I suspect you will be more likely to be asked.

Just get one. You'll probably sail through, but if you get stopped and don't have one it will cause loads of problems.

Definitely take a letter of consent with parents passport details too. My son recently took his daughter and her friend (13 yrs old) abroad and was challenged at passport control. He had to phone her parents so they could talk to officers. I think it's a good protection to help prevent child trafficking.

I was going through Gatwick with my son a few years back. DH had gone through to pick up bags as we’d had to go to the loo. Passport asked if I was mum (different surname) and where dad was…. It all turned out ok but I would take a letter of consent just in case.
