To think there’s dignity in work, no matter the job?

It seems like some people look down on certain types of work but isn’t there value and dignity in any job if you’re earning an honest living?

It annoys me that many of the most overpaid jobs are not contributing anything useful, yet many of the hard ones that really give to society are underpaid.

society does not need footballers

Yes, we do.
The people doing "essential" work like those in healthcare, food production, energy, social care etc. Do they not deserve to see some entertainment?
We need entertainment to have some joy in life. Whether it is the latest series on Netflix, or bonding with your dad at a local footie match... it is all needed.
I don't like football.... but I would not begrudge anyone else for liking it.

There should be dignity in work, but if it is having an impact on your general wellbeing then that is a huge red flag to me. Lots of threads on here about bullying managers etc. It is not often the work making people ill but their boss and/or environment. There is no dignity in crying in your car before you start work.

My DM has a cleaning company and she really looks after her staff. A lot of people have been working for her for years. She sees them as people, not a number.

Society does need entertainment, however. Football comes under that banner. Footballers earn a fortune, presumably their salaries being reflected in their pulling power at the stadium entrance. Should it be modified in some way? Probably.

Their huge salaries are not at the tax payer expense though. Is why it makes no sense when you see stuff online about how nurses earn less than footballers. The money comes from a different purse, and the top earning footballers are incredibly talented. You could be the best nurse on the ward (not sure how that would be measured) and you would still earn the same as the one that can't be arsed.
