It’s not “a treat” if it’s regular.

YANBU, but I expect you will be piled on!

ReesesCupcake · 14/04/2025 09:27

When you say weekly, do you mean once a week or several times a week?

Because there’s quite a difference between the two.

TeenToTwenties · 14/04/2025 09:27

Lucky you if that is where you think the borderline for neglect is.

Motomum23 · 14/04/2025 09:28

It's not neglect. It's not healthy at all but it's not neglect in the slightest. (And no my kids don't eat mcdonalds weekly I'd be broke!)

Youaremythtaken · 14/04/2025 09:29

Borderline neglect? Wow. You must have led a sheltered life!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/04/2025 09:29

I would say if their diet is balanced for 20/21 meals a week, a McDonalds won’t be an issue. If they’re having a McDonalds every week on top of an already shoddy diet, the diet as a whole is the issue to focus on.

TeenToTwenties · 14/04/2025 09:29

Neglect is being left home alone age 3.
Or no toys to aid development.
Nowhere to sleep.
Insufficient food regularly.
No fitting clothes, no clean clothes.
No winter coat.

Lyannaa · 14/04/2025 09:30

🙄

PaintYourAssLikeRembrandt · 14/04/2025 09:30

One crappy meal a week is not neglect ffs.

mamajong · 14/04/2025 09:30

Yabu. Personally I wouldn't give mine it weekly but as part of an overall healthy balanced diet its not the end of the world. Where I live there are pockets of poverty and all sorts of challenges facing kids, far more neglectful than this. Resources are stretched thin, so let's focus on the kids without enough to eat before we start laying into parents for this kind of thing!

Gloriia · 14/04/2025 09:30

Well it's lazy parenting and encouraging very unhealthy eating habits rather than neglect.

Mylegishangingoff · 14/04/2025 09:30

No, it's really not.

x2boys · 14/04/2025 09:31

You have had a very charmed life if you think its neglect.

dudsville · 14/04/2025 09:31

This is a gross misuse of the term "neglect".

This.

Once a week is a treat btw.

A take out once a week does not make an unhealthy diet. Only what you eat each day does that.

Timeforabiscuit · 14/04/2025 09:32

Three years running battle with cancer and yes, my kids ate McDonald's once a week - probably more if I'm truthful.

Quite honestly, I doubt you would have lent my family a hand and as all I would get from you is judgement - I wouldn't let you near my family in a difficult time.

I think if this is your bar for what you consider neglect, you really need a decent dose of perspective.

Devilsmommy · 14/04/2025 09:32

You can't be serious surely. A once a week maccies isn't even in the ballpark of neglect. The fact you think it is shows just how charmed a life you've been lucky enough to live

Anonym00se · 14/04/2025 09:32

Of course it’s not neglect, and I say that as someone who hates McDs and never eats it.

Starving your children is neglect. Letting them have a treat once a week is completely normal.

wonderstuff · 14/04/2025 09:33

I don’t think it’s that bad, chips are high fat, but mostly potato right? Then you’ve got chicken in batter or burger, sauces and breads are highly processed, but the meat is fine. Fizzy drinks aren’t great but once a week is not much. Really depends on the rest of a kids diet.

Gloriia · 14/04/2025 09:33

'Personally I wouldn't give mine it weekly but as part of an overall healthy balanced diet its not the end of the world'

The kind of people who take their kids to MacD's every week I doubt give them an overall healthy balanced diet the rest of the time.

WhySoManySocks · 14/04/2025 09:33

YANBU.

To everyone saying it’s a treat, I doubt that the kids who eat McD regularly eat unprocessed food rich in fruit, vegetables and protein on other days.

Eileen101 · 14/04/2025 09:33

YABU. If you think that's where the line of neglect is, you are a little misguided.
