Condenser dryers

Help please. I need a condenser tumble dryer that only goes on for a maximum of 5 minutes at a time. Ideally I would like an old-fashioned manual setting but I'm guessing they don't make them like that any more. They all seem to have pre-set programmes. Is it possible to stop them mid-programme to pull out the clothes? Thanks in advance for any advice.

5 mins at a time? What do you expect it to do in that short time?

Find out if you can set a programme then cancel it.

We have a condenser dryer and they're not as efficient as vented, plus it's quite old. I stick things in that can't be tumble dried but are dry with a damp cloth to get creases out for about 15 mins.

I'm also a bit puzzled as to why you'd want to stop the dryer after only five minutes. As the pp has said, the clothes would still be very wet after so short a time, but yes, it should be possible. I have a Beko, and if I wanted to do that I'm pretty sure that all I'd have to do is open the door & turn the dryer off at the mains.

Thanks, yes. I used to have a vented but it's not possible in my new home. I put a few things in for a few minutes then hang them up damp in the airing cupboard so that I don't have to iron. These programmes are doing my head in. I just want to shove the clothes in and get them out as soon as possible.

My Beko one is great. Yes you can just open the door mid cycle. In fact the Beko cycles are just how dry you want it, it then has a moisture sensor which will stop the drying at that point. So you can indeed ask for clothes to come out a bit damp.

Yes! I have one that just has a dial and you turn it round to how many minutes you want. No other settings just hot or warm and the minutes.
You can open the door at any point. It’s great, I do everything for 10 mins before I hang it on the line for an hour!

Durhamgirlie - that would be just what I'm after. Unfortunately it's discontinued though 😩

WonderingWanda - it looks like I'm edging towards a Beko then 😀

Another vote for Beko here. Mine would do just what you want. You can even set it to 'iron dry'.

Youaremythtaken · 14/04/2025 10:22

I would assume you can open the door anytime on all tumble dryers? Not sure what make our condenser is but you certainly can with it.

I didn't think they locked like washing machines as obviously there's no danger of water flooding out

BeaAndBen · 14/04/2025 10:23

Most have settings for a range of “how dry do you want this” including Iron Dry, which is damp.

Scampuss · 14/04/2025 10:59

My AEG has a manual option, but in 10 minute increments.

Another vote for beko

My washer dryer estimated iron dry at 3hrs 10 mins. After 15 mins hadn't decreased that time, so I stopped it and changed the settings.

1hr 30 later and after a few seconds of wafting the items to cool down and stop steaming, they are dry but needing airing. (What I assume to be iron dry). After this, I always just set the programme to a time frame.

Its an indesit.

To stop or change programs, you just press the pause button and wait for the door to click open. Some models you will press pause and the on/off button as well. So yes, OP, they can be opened mid cycle.

I have a Beko too and the shortest cycle is 10 mins. But you can open the door whenever, no matter what cycle it’s on.

Glad to see Beko recommendations as that’s what DP chose last week when we needed a new dryer and he ordered the first one he saw Grin

Excited to use it now Blush
