Posted for traffic.

So DC has completed their Gold DofE.

Prior to completion, I have always said it was their choice who to bring as a guest & where.

So DC would like 2 guests, 1 me & the other DGD. For this reason we had originally chosen Scotland (Scotland allows 2 guests, London 1).

DC has since thought that London would be more notable, meaning only 1 guest.

I would completely give up my place for DGF, he is very old (mid 80’s) & I would much prefer he had the opportunity however it is also my DC’s (once in a lifetime) & DGD isn’t very good at taking photos…..

i literally don’t know what to do….?

Scotland? Is that Holyrood?

I'd say that it depends on which venue is closer to you.

Has dc got any other friends and their parents attending? If so, could you ensure they take a photo or three?

Whyiseverythingsuchamess · 12/04/2025 23:09

@WearyAuldWumman
yes, that’s where it’s at

its not location, its no of attendee's . I am willing to pay for a here for the night 😊

@Gundogda, this is the problem. In London 1 guest, Scotland 2 max.

no issues with friends attending but not allowed 😔

I think that if your son takes a camera then he will be able to hand it to someone to take photos. Everybody will be primed to take photos on that day and it's quite a slow relaxed day so no rush really.

I would only say - I got my Gold at Holyrood, and it was a lovely day because I met so many of my friends there. It was really bizarre, but literally my best friend from nursery school who I hadn't seen since age 4, and a guy who was later a sort of boyfriend and so many other people who had really meant a lot to me. So if he goes to London he might really miss out on a lot.

Going to Holyrood was lovely. The Duke of Edinburgh just wandered about and chatted to us and there was a lot of standing around all looking at each other, which I did enjoy a lot, because teens do like to look at other teens.

Can you find out if there'll be a professional photographer at the event? You might be able to buy photos if that makes the decision easier.

Just because there's a limit to how many get to go in for the ceremony doesn't mean you can't go to london too and have a celebratory meal afterwards. There will be an official professional photographer taking photographs you can buy surely? I found a doc online (from a few years ago but I don't expect it changes year to year) that says there will be an official photograph of the presentation group and the official photographer also have a setup at Westminster Hall where you can go for further photographs which can include other family members who didn't attend the actual presentation.

This is your DC's special celebration and it's not for you. Go with whatever DC chooses.

Holyrood is a beautiful setting. I was last there for a regimental drumhead service.
