Chickenpox vaccine

It's £150 to go private via boots and can saves weeks of misery, even if it's a mild reaction.

I know that's a lot of money to some but many can afford it and don't know about it or don't actually do it.

Many other countries have it as standard. The NHS can't afford to roll it out and say that it helps with reducing shingles in the older population to have CP in the general population in this way. I did loads of research and the countries that offer it for free as part of the childhood vaccination programme don't see increased rates of shingles. Plus, if everyone was vaccinated shingles would dissappear anyway.

I saw the PSA on another thread about shijngles vaccine so thought I'd join in. I told my friend who has a 6 and 1 year old and she had no idea is was so cheap to pay for the vaccine. Can save lives and money overall (re: losing money on missing events/holidays when children inevitably catch it.

Over and out.

Once again, Scotland making good decisions. I'm in England. Probs should have said that.

NICE have said it should be being rolled out soon in England but that was a while ago.

We paid when my daughter was 1 as if she had caught it in nursery, it would end up costing us a fortune in lost nursery fees and time off work etc..... my eldest (now an adult) also got it really badly when a child and I wanted to avoid that.

Annoyingly the shingles vaccine is around £400 to get privately and only available on the NHS to certain age groups. As you say CP always seems to arrive at an inconvenient time and can result in nasty symptoms and within a family can drag on for weeks if they infect each other.

This was my thinking. I was a single mum working full time and the lost fees/time off work/stress if they got it made it a good decision.

If I’d known it was n option I’d have vaccinated my kids. It’s not a mild illness.

I was £100 off saving for the vaccines for my 3. Then my eldest son caught it. Currently waiting for the others to get it. It's been nearly 3 weeks though so fingers crossed.
