To want a North Face puffer?

I know we're now into spring but I've have seen a couple of young women wearing brightly-coloured NF puffer jackets this week (the one with a black strip at the top of the back, if you know what I mean). Not sure I can afford/justify one, but they give off a really cool vibe to me.

Tell me you're not a secondary school teacher without telling me you're not a secondary school teacher.

BestZebbie · 11/04/2025 19:30

I was intrigued but they give me Star Trek: The Next Generation Away Team vibes rather than student vibes...

My teenage dd and all of her friends wear northface. Bonus points if you wear it with a hoodie with the hood pulled up. Dd is always saying I saw you drive by, why didn't you wave and I have to tell her that I can't tell her apart from every other teenager in town when she is wearing the uniform.

That's a long way of saying it wouldn't be for me, I'd feel like I was trying to cosplay my dd.

Airwaterfire · 11/04/2025 19:21

All the posher teenagers round my way have them, plus a Longchamp tote. If you want to pay £300 to look like you’re in year 11 at the local private school, why not! 😄

Mia-ouch! 😅

Crispyapple · 11/04/2025 19:45

I like them OP. I’d try Vinted, can sometimes grab a bargain on there

I don't want this to get political.

But these decisions are. So many other cool and exciting brands that aren’t American. Don’t support a government or country that has no morals about starting a world wide trade war. Don’t be complicit.

nicky2512 · 11/04/2025 19:52

I had to look them up. Why not op? I think they look lovely. As long as you will get plenty of wear out of it and not just for a short time then I dare say you could spend your money on worse!

Ds outgrew dh when he was about 14/15. Now 58 year old Dh will be wearing the brands favoured by teenagers for a long time to come. He acquired a free wardrobe of clothes and cares not what labels are on them. It’s a change from Asda and Tesco!

geoger · 11/04/2025 19:52

Don’t pay full price for one as the quality has really gone down. Check Vinted or try the Next clearance page online. I have a North Face parka that’s over 12 years old and looks great still. We bought both our DC a NF puffa - barely 2 years old and they look tatty, have lost the puffiness and bits of down come out at the seams.

KateArnott · 11/04/2025 20:01

I love my NF puffer! They’re worth the money because you’ll have it years. I bought mine second hand on Vinted.

I feel victimised now because I’ve got a Longchamp tote too!

ShadowQuill · 11/04/2025 20:09

Thanks all. Be proud @KateArnott 😅

I think my kids would be embarrassed if I got myself one 😅. Not cool and young enough. I might use that as a leverage though "OK, you hand me your phones right now or I'll get myself a NF puffer!".
Just buy it if you have the means and it makes you happy. Atleast it will keep you warm.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 11/04/2025 20:24

I bought a full length one in the autumn, warmest coat ever. Also have goodies, fleeces, hats and trousers. I'm 51 years old and very respectable.

If you want one, get one, ignore the judgey comments...you won't regret it

fiorentina · 11/04/2025 20:25

I like them, but so do my teens so I wouldn't buy one. But go for it!

RitaAndFrank · 11/04/2025 20:31

I sling on either one of my DDs’ black NF puffers sometimes if I’m heading out and it’s cold and they’re the first things that come to hand 🤷‍♀️ nothing to do with fashion or being cool, just practical. But if I look like a questionably cool 49 year old road man mum so be it.

strangeandfamiliar · 11/04/2025 20:33

DD would probably steal it if I bought one. Accessorised with swishy long hair and Brandy Melville for the full effect. Agree that they're practical though!

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 11/04/2025 20:38

I’ve had mine for 30 years and it’s still going strong. Problem is that quality has gone down and they’ve become a fashion brand with an image that is definitely not me.

Try Rab or Montane which are British brands (although inevitably most manufacturing is in the far east) and what more outdoorsey folk wear. Or Patagonia which is a charity, although also going a bit “fashion”.

itsjustbiology · 11/04/2025 20:47

You would be booed off the streets here OP! Has to be Zavetti !!! If you want one go for it ..treat yourself x

Dweetfidilove · 11/04/2025 20:55

Trust MN to tell you it's roadman attire, then point you to some other dull stuff that every other mumsnetter will be wearing 😊.

They look warm and cosy a d are worn by mandem, many a teenager and many moms. If you like it, go for it. Winter will be here again by the time you've blinked.

ShadowQuill · 11/04/2025 20:55

There's been some great replies here :)

Do it. I have two and I love them.
Purchased them from north face renewed. Cheaper than normal but still excellent. I love the warm and convenience.

MixedBananas · 11/04/2025 21:01

Look on Vinted or Ebay for second hands. Or wait for winter sale.

My advise don't buy fads and things that will go out of fashion. Get a classic timeless coat / jacket.

Also second not supporting Zionist companies

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/04/2025 21:38

They are filled with down so they are very, very warm and not waterproof. The down goes all thin and clumpy when it gets wet.

I have had one for about 35 years for winter mountaineering.

mrssunshinexxx · 12/04/2025 03:31

@ShadowQuill get on vinted for one x
