I have no skin in this game and don't care either way. BUT I wonder who is right and who is wrong.
So none of us have assigned parking. Some people like to park in front of their house. Some park wherever.
About half of the residents want to park directly in front of their houses and have 'No Parking' signs up, stating access is needed 24 hours a day.
Some spaces are not suitable because they impede access onto the driveway (non- terraced) of the house opposite, making their turn into their driveway too tight. This reduces available parking even more, however there is parking at either end of the terrace (where I park because it's easier, can always get parked there no problem).
Last week, one of my neighbours complained to me abut a guest visiting another house parking in 'his' space. Yes, he has a 'No Parking' sign up. Yes, most of his direct neighbours adhere to this standard.
I did say that there are no owned spaces, but that it was polite to stick to the rule. He was adamant that this guest was wrong, and had actually confronted them. He genuinely thought I was wrong. I wasn't invested enough to argue about it because as long as I can park I don't care where I put the car.
Who was right?
YANBU - no one owns the space outside their house. Have at it!
YABU - we should all adhere to this polite rule and ask our guests to do the same.
