How bad is it in the city centre? Piles of rubbish everywhere and stinky or not too bad?
(Please no jokes about Brum's normal condition... i am a proud Midlander myself!)

i was there sat/ sun Monday, driving around a bit, staying in city centre and doing some touristy things. I didn’t actually know there was a bin strike until we tuned into local radio in the car. Admittedly it did looks a bit messy but not bad enough for me to notice a bin strike

for comparison a couple years ago I was in Brighton when they had strikes and there were literally towers of black bags on the streets and rats running around!

SingWithMeJustForToday · 10/04/2025 20:44

It’s fine.

Danikm151 · 10/04/2025 20:44

City centre is fine. Regular street bin collections are happening it’s mostly domestic waste collections. So if you’re not going out of the city centre you won’t notice.

lafillette · 10/04/2025 20:47

The city centre is fine.

CrepuscularCritter · 10/04/2025 20:50

I've been in the city centre today for an event. It's absolutely fine.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 10/04/2025 20:53

It's awful. Really sad to see the condition Birmingham is in. We had to do the windows of our car up and drive straight out of the city.

I've not visited since the bin strike so I don't know if that's made a difference.

WorthySloth · 10/04/2025 20:55

I’m up there for Easter weekend and drove through a couple of weeks ago. City centre is fine. So sorry for the people on the outskirts tho 😢

Sorry what? What happened?!

Icanhearabee · 10/04/2025 20:56

I wouldn’t set foot Birmingham bin strike or no bin strike.

CarpetKnees · 10/04/2025 21:04

It's fine.

National media are doing some very odd reporting. Does make you wonder how much truth there is in other stuff they report on. Hmm

City Centre is fine.
Overwhelmingly the rest of the City is fine.

Now the picket line have been stopped from not letting the people working out of the depot, most places have had collections.

Birmingham city centre is as normal.

TheArcher · 10/04/2025 21:09

As others have said, you wouldn’t even know in the city centre, it’s fine.

Cremeeggorcaramelegg · 10/04/2025 22:18

Your loss. We moved away but go up for a weekend every month or so. Have an absolute blast and every time consider moving back. However we live by the sea now and would struggle to give that up.

MamaTess · 10/04/2025 22:40

You honestly wouldn't know in most parts of birmingham, the majority of people are just taking their rubbish to the tip themselves. Some roads have piled it up, all together, and thats what the media keep showing. It doesn't look that that everywhere.
