To be unnerved by my bikini wax?

Went for my bikini wax (it’s been a while) and was looking forward to being all trim and tidy. I go for hot wax and usually get a Brazilian. However the waxer was either so busy chatting or working on autopilot that she wheeched the lot off! I am rocking (depending on your take) the p*rn star or pre-pubescent look. I’m unnerved by this. As a grown woman I feel I should have some hair there. AIBU to be a bit weirded out or is this the norm these days??

I don’t think there’s any norm - purely down to personal preference. Some women leave everything as nature intended, some remove some hair but not all of it, and some prefer to have no hair there. There’s no right or wrong.

In an ideal world I’d actually like to be hair-free down there, but when I shave it feels itchy and prickly and I don’t think I could be bothered with the maintenance of regular waxing.

I don’t feel it looks prepubescent on an adult woman, any more than a shaved armpit on an adult looks like a child’s armpit, really, but of course people are entitled to feel differently; it’s understandable.

I don’t think anyone’s saying that everyone has to be comfortable with it, are they? Only that it doesn’t make them look or feel like a child.

No it really wasn’t. It’s always the ones who leave hair that have to start insulting those that don’t. And always bring things like prepubescent into it. My 58 year old fanny does not look prepubescent any more than my 58 year old smooth legs and arm pits. It just looks bald.

I get all mine off when I brave a wax, seems pointless to leave some after enduring that indignity and pain! She always asks if I want 'up the back' too so I say yes. Apparently most women she waxes prefer it all off, the 'landing strip' is a bit outdated.

Did you specify exactly how you wanted it? Maybe she had you down for a Hollywood by mistake? Did you not ask her to stop?

I love feeling all smooth and clean down there, and it grows back softer too. No need to worry about hairs when you wear a bikini either.

Thanks all. I’m slowly getting used to it but it just felt a bit weird at the start. I’ll be sure to double check that she knows next time what I’m there for or maybe I’ll be a convert to the new look by then!

This has happened to me so I believe the op. I like some left on the front , like and extreme bikini wax, but with chattiing and habit for the waxer being on autopilot it’s happened to me more than once, not the whole lot as I’ve realised in time but enough that it goes from being a landing strip to a tiny patch.
my partner was delighted and I enjoyed his response so I often do get that much removed now but never bare as I hate the look on me..
i always have my undercarriage and behind done and ime all the waxing starts from the front and top ,

So often those who remove all pubic hair say it makes them feel ‘cleaner’, maybe implying those who keep theor hair are less clean.
My view is that it’s a personal choice and no one should have an opinion on what others do. It’s their own choice.
Keeping your hair doesn’t make you less clean and removing it all doesn’t make you look pre-pubescent or pornified.

I’m not sure if a grown woman would be seen as prepubescent. It’s a bit derogatory to use the term porn star if someone prefers to fully remove their pubic hair.

Also this in spades. For a bikini wax you don’t need to take your underwear off. Some places do give paper pants for extended bikini wax. If you remove your underwear completely for a simple bikini wax, maybe the lady thought that OP changed her mind and wanted a Brazilian wax or a Hollywood wax?

Well done OP, i've had it done once, and while it was fine after everything calmed down down there, during I have never felt pain like it. It was OK ish doing the bikini was, then working inwards got a bit more painful. When she got to the middle bit to finish off I couldn't breathe with pain! Up the back was relatively painless.

I did prefer it all done but I wouldn't put myself through that again for love nor money.

I don’t think you need to worry about looking prepubescent or anything like that. I think that’s a bit ridiculous. I think it’s fairly common to be shaved or waxed down there these days. Everyone has their own preferences. I can’t remember the last time I shaved or waxed anywhere other than my legs.
Maybe next time just make it clear what you want and that you want to keep a little bit.

Yes, that's probably where the misunderstanding arose.

I get a hot wax Brazilian which like other posters have said, involves almost all off underneath and behind so it’s standard to remove underwear, I guess I just cling to the wee landing strip left and was a bit weirded out by the look when it was gone. As for staying the wishes clearly: I don’t usually have to. It’s booked as a Brazilian and this is what she always does.

I wasn’t meaning to be derogatory to anyone who has this done BtW by referring to porn star. Am very much ‘each to their own’ but it just felt weird and I wondered if I was maybe overreacting and it’s pretty standard.

I don’t think it implies anything other than it makes the person commenting feel cleaner. It’s not a commentary on anyone else. Some people feel cleaner because it’s smooth so there is no hair to hold urine residue, metal blood and discharge residue. Other people don’t feel this way. They feel as long as you wash once a day then they are clean enough. Both are accurate. Hair does hold residue. Washing once a day will keep you clean enough for most people.
