People can be so cunning, selfish, or even ruthless when it comes to money. You really see what someone is like when finances are involved.

Why would they be? Seems highly unlikely, strange conclusion

YANBU. You only have to look at the arguing that happens within a previously close family when there's a will / sniff of cash ....

Tbrh · 10/04/2025 03:47

Agree, I have been horrified with the behaviours people have stooped to where wills have been involved. Usually the more money they have to start with the worse they are in my experience

BlondiePortz · 10/04/2025 03:49

Well some people with money can me terrible people same with people who have chips on their shoulders who dont have money so it depends

And separations/divorces - “He would never do that to me/us”. Oh yes he would!

Random question. What is the context?

Simplestars · 10/04/2025 06:57

Divorce and inheritance brings out the worse.

Divorce and inheritance brings out the worse.

I actually think the reason why these two events being out the worst in people is because they evoke emotions that aren't necessarily anything even to do with money. Inheritance in particular is tinged with grief and all the feelings that existed when the deceased person was alive. It rakes up lots of hurt and upset that is often channelled towards the financial aspects of the death as this is the most tangible and seemingly most pressing element.

Yup - inheritance in our case. Extended family member was in need so we gifted a five figure amount, only for them to demand the same again 3 months later.
