Not requiring as much iron?
I dabbled throughout my life and only ever ate chicken and fish. I last ate red meat as a child, just didn't care for it. So it's not like I was getting a ton regardless.

Always wanted to move over, but I really, really don't like or agree with beans and pulses. I have IBS and they hurt me. I do get along with wholewheat pasta, which is great for fibre and protein, and can eat wholegrain rice happily, so not worried about that.

But I obviously don't want to scrimp on calcium so would prefer to keep eating dairy.

I think you’ll be fine as you can just take a supplement- I don’t think there’s much iron in chicken or fish anyway.

If you don’t eat beans and pulses that obviously makes it tricker than if you did, but I would think lots of green vegetables and a supplement would be better for iron than chicken and fish.

Thank you!
I eat tons of veg, thankfully I love it so kind of lucky there, so must get a lot of fibre from that and fruit to start with.
I am happy to eat wholegrain but not the beans or pulses, although I do like oats etc.

Am only concerned about iron really as do get a good amount of animal fats and B vits outside of meat.

I am just at the point where I hate spending money on quality meat when I don't even like it.

I would eat fish, perhaps?

Older people need more protein to maintain muscle mass. I would keep fish in your diet at a minimum if you won't eat beans and pulses.

Good idea, I do get a nice amount of protein - nuts, cheese, veg sources, mackerel and salmon. I also love peas, edemame, seeds, yogurt...

It’s Never too late to stop eating meat op

Also post-menopause and finding myself slipping more and more away from meat-eating. I just don't care for meat as much any more.

But our protein needs actually increase as we age. I find myself better off if I cut down on carbs and increase protein and fibre.

I have rediscovered beans. I could not eat them for years because they caused me to bloat painfully. Last year I tried modifying my gut biome by cutting out sugars and increasing prebiotics and probiotics. I already ate yogurt and kefir, so I added unpasteurised sauerkraut and probiotic capsules. Since then, as long as I maintain a high intake of probiotics foods, I can eat beans again.

Yeh, I have heard that a slow introduction to beans and pulses would help, but the thing is I really dont like them, and since I want to enjoy my food I dont want to force myself to eat them iyswim?

I do get a good amount of fibre and have a balanced diet, so no need to go low carb. Have been a good weight and am fit so not concerned about that.

I just don't like meat. Fish not too bad, but meat irritates me. I buy organic chicken every week and resent it. I only do it for iron.
I ate hardly any meat through decades of menstruating and never had issues.

Not worried about protein, am sure I can get enough.
