Six the Musical Film - 12A

Just gathering some opinions.
My 9 year old loves the songs from Six, she’s never seen the musical but heard them on a soundtrack.
She’s seen it’s out in the cinema now and wants to see it, it’s a 12A but I’m fine with that for her.

Issue is my 5 year old will want to come, she’s enjoys the music but probably won’t understand that much.

It’s a 12A so up to me but would you take a 5 year old?

For reference Barbie was also a 12A, mine didn’t see that but I know lots of 5 years old did

Thoughts?

I think the part about how many miscarriages they had and the dead mother to a child bit are not ideal for a young child. I've always been bothered by the bit where a 13 year old is sexual active with a 30 year old but I don't think lots of kids will pick up on that.

My (then 5 year old) now 7 year old has been listening to the music for the past two years, as well as seeing the musical, getting the Queens autographs and knowing ALL the words. The adult themes go straight over kids heads tbh, and my 10 year old, who does understand some of it, just has a giggle and a smirk when those bits are sung, but that’s all.

Based on my relatives who are about the same age (9 year old loves the soundtrack, 5 year old will have heard it but I think it goes over her head.) I'd say you'd be okay. Even with the 9 year old I think a lot goes over her head as well - she's watched all of Gavin and Stacey without passing any comment on any of the adult references, and a joke about the aubergine emoji at a pantomime the Christmas before last went over both girls' heads.

My very young natured just-12 year old (she has some SEND issues going on and she's just young-natured in general) only picked up on the sparkly clothes, epic boots and pink hair elements of the stage show. We might be battling a campaign to have Howard's pink ponytail but the darker elements went right over her head (I knew they would).

Her much more streetwise older sibling howled with laughter at every rhyme hinting to penis jokes - again as predicted.

Saw this with my 11yo DD today and she loved it having already listened to the soundtrack many times. We found seeing the show really added to our understanding of it and she really got the Katherine Howard song better than I thought she might - but she’s a keen reader and getting into Cathy Cassidy books etc so probably more attuned to those things than she would have been a couple of years ago. Most of the innuendo still went over her head though!
