Holiday anxiety - anyone else?

We’ve never done a city break as a family but just booked Paris for next week. Myself, husband and x2 kids (10&13)

Completely irrational, I know, but anyone else suffer from ‘pre-holiday anxiety?’
Between now & next week I’ll be anxious about everything related to these few days away. 😭

Anyone else? Any tips?

We go away abroad about 5 times a year. We’re currently in Orlando. We had 2 weeks at the park and a week on a cruise. We fly home tonight. Despite being experienced in airports, flying, hotels and all the rest I ALWAYS get pre-holiday anxiety. Something might go tits up etc. I’ve currently got ‘flight home’ anxiety that will shift as soon as our arses are in our seats. Then I’ll get ‘has all the luggage made it’ anxiety. Im a list maker but im also a worrier and I’ve come to learn im always going to be this way!

My pre holiday anxiety is limited to a week or so beforehand and it can be pretty overwhelming, to the extent that i have anxiety dreams about things going wrong.
Usually about leaving something or someone behind.
I have indeed left meds behind before, and once DH, who was loading the bags into the car, actually left a small but significant vanity type case of mine behind on the landing.
Didn't discover it until we arrived at our destination in northern France -- we were driving there so not unloading till we got there. It was my fault apparently, i didn't make it clear that i had three separate items to go into the car. But they were all together on the landing...

It’s easy because you’re a couple.
I felt this way taking my 3 abroad on my first holiday as a single mum.

How’s it going op?

maldivemoment · 14/04/2025 20:46

@greengreyblue so kind and considerate of you to check in. Thank you.

Paris is simply awesome! We got the red eye this morning which meant we were up at 4.30! 😭
Walked for miles today so we’re all now burst! About to fall into bed.

Hoping for another lovely day tomorrow.

Passport, money, phone, keys & an adaptor plug & you're all good. You can buy anything else you forget there - you could also buy an adaptor but from personal experience I can say that trying to buy a 'home' to 'away' adaptor in the 'away' country can be annoyingly difficult.

Should anyone reading happen to forget their adaptor in Krakow, go to tourist info in the old town where they have a large cheap stock of them!

It’s normal. The thing I struggle with is leaving the house. I worry about it being empty, I clean like mad because someone is going to have to come in and feed the cats, and I have an irrational fear that I’ll never come home again. The holiday itself isn’t usually the worry.

I’m exactly like this. I stress about my elderly parents, the house, the dog, getting burgled. The kids being ill, delayed flights. I find it all bloody stressful TBH.

Agree with this. Once I've left the house I realise there's nothing more I can do so the holiday officially starts then! And even more so when the flight takes off (hopefully on time) and the drinks trolley is heading my way 🤣

I never used to, but peri anxiety & travelling with DC mean I do now. Just got back from an abroad trip & I was a mess beforehand. I was ok once we left for the trip though. A few anxious moments, like making sure we catch the right train to the airport etc. but nothing major.

I used to just jump on a plane to anywhere in the world without a second thought & if anything went wrong wed just deal with it!

Brilliant! Hope it continues to be wonderful! You forget any mishaps and problems soon after return and just have the memories I find anyway. So each time I start to worry I remember that those problems were overcome and the trip was good regardless.
