A care emoji

Sameoldsameoldsame · 09/04/2025 07:31

I read posts and sometimes add the agree emoji, the thanks or the love or laugh.

I'd really like a care emoji when I want to show care but don't want to add a post saying something said lots of times before and filling the thread up.

Would the care emoji be useful?

Yabu no the ones we have are enough

Yanbu yes it would be useful

😊 thanks

no. It’s not Facebook

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 09/04/2025 07:38

There's a heart emoji

FlowerFairy12 · 09/04/2025 07:40

What I find really annoying is not being able to see how many times other posts have been ‘liked’. It would be good to see which are the most popular ones. I can only see who’s liked my ones.

We need a "completely disagree" button far more than a "care" button!

AddictedToDarkChocolate · 09/04/2025 07:42

Wouldn’t the love emoji work if you want to show care?

I’d prefer a disagree emoji or something along those lines. People are using the laughing emoji as a negative one and I think a disagree emoji would be better.

Ha. Cross posted. I agree with your disagree button.

Fair point.

I prefer words for the most part. If this place descends into just an exchange of emojis it's going to lose any sense of detail or depth. I do use the thanks or agree but usually then also reply. If we are going to have them though Id like the 🙄 or 🤔 to feature personally.

I often use agree rather then post the same information as 20 other posts since I'm not adding anything new. Although only the poster can see that rather then op.

I agree that there could be a fifth 'React' option which reflects something like you are suggesting here.

AddictedToDarkChocolate · 09/04/2025 07:52

I’d like all these as options

👎 🙄 🤪 🤔 🤬

and I’d love a troll emoji but that’ll never happen.

Oh, I'm not sure about this! A 'disagree' button (which would be fine, btw) is a clear message. But a 'laughing' emoji is a bit more of an ironic 'I'm laughing at you' kind of response which feels very MN.

There was a thread a while back where a number of posters said the laughing emoji was being used to mock people. Mumsnet are aware and said that if posters report it, it’ll be treated in the same way a personal attack is.

I think a disagree button would be better as it’s fine to disagree, but it’s not fine to mock.

Hmm. It's a fine line though, isn't it? My friends and colleagues laugh at me and/or roll their eyes ironically if I express an opinion that seems off-beam. I don't feel 'mocked', it's low-level, I'm not a 'victim'.

Going OT here, but we have to be very careful with censoring everyday expressions, and I am sure MN people are aware of the fine line between gentle ironic mocking and outright abuse/attack.
