To ask if I should pay or the dentist?…..

Recently had a new white filling in a back tooth (6 weeks ago) at £150. The dentist was a newly qualified dentist and had someone observe one of my filings (had a couple)

Well some of its just broken off, leaving a jaggy bit that’s hurting my tongue when I speak or eat. It was part of the filling and corner of my tooth that came away. Managed to get an appointment tomorrow but I’m thinking will I have to pay?

Do I have to just suck it up and think these things happen so pay up and shut up or that it shouldn’t chip off in a few weeks if it was done properly or when it should have been given a crown?

Anyway, I’ve no idea what they’ll do about it but I can’t afford more money. Wish I’d just got a silver one then at least if I needed more work I wouldn’t have wasted £150

TIA

I would think that will be repaired under guarantee unless you did something silly like chew a breezeblock.

I hope you’re right 🤞

Didn’t you ask when you called for an appointment?

No because I was in a hurry on my lunch break and assumed I wouldn’t have to pay but then thought, bludy hell, I might 🥴

My dentist has had to make little repairs to work before and they've never charged

Elsadutton · 08/04/2025 19:45

I had one (done by an experienced dentist) and it cracked after less than 2 months and they charged me to redo it. To be fair I didn’t dispute at the time, it was only afterwards I thought it wasn’t really on.

Yeah it doesn’t seem on that, but I think that’s what I’m expecting them to say…. “Right so that’s £150 please…” but I feel it’s not fair really as they should last longer than a few weeks

I would certainly challenge them if they tried to charge me. Surely the filling was not fit for purpose for it to fail so quickly.

I agree!

No I don't think you should have to pay after only six weeks.
