What do I want to do on my birthday?

Struggling to think of how to spend my birthday. It’s not an important one and I have the day off with DP and then with my DSS too, in the evening.

It’s been a tough few years with infertility so I guess I’m no longer excited about being another year older (and running out of time).

Any ideas welcome! I’ve purposely not given detail about the kind of things I like so I might get more suggestions of things I’d not considered perhaps?

What would you do?

I'd go to a spa for the day, or have a very long drunken lunch somewhere, or go to a matinee at the theatre

Are you far from the coast? Maybe fish and chips at the beach and a plodge in the sea?

Near a stately home? A picnic in the gardens with smoked salmon & cucumber sandwiches, strawberries & cream and a glass of Pimms?

Close to hills and dales? A walk to a nice country pub for lunch?

Live in a city? Cocktails and brunch followed by a theatre matinee or a wander around a gallery?

ShriekingTrespasser · 08/04/2025 14:18

If it’s good weather, I’d go for a bike ride or kayaking then a nice lunch. Then I’d go shopping and buy some books. spend the afternoon reading.

stayathomer · 08/04/2025 14:20

I’d do something that used to make me happy eg there’s an art shop I used to love wandering around, or I’d go horse riding or to a lovely park to read. With a cupcake! Also visit family! Hope you enjoy x

WonderingWanda · 08/04/2025 14:23

At this time of year I'd go for a lovely walk and stop for an outdoor pub lunch if the weather was nice enough. In winter maybe a spa or a walk followed by lunch near an open fire.

Time40 · 08/04/2025 14:29

Have a day out at the seaside and include as many traditional seaside activities as possible, then go home and drink champagne.

Rocknrollstar · 08/04/2025 15:29

Where do you live? I’d go to an art gallery during the day with DP and then out to dinner in the evening with DSS as well.

Seaside is a little too far but a lovely idea. Picnic is too, if the weather continues to be nice.

Spa, galleries & shopping noted too.

Any other ideas?

I love a visit to a stately home or a castle ..one with a good cafe so we can have lunch.

Confusedmermaid1 · 08/04/2025 19:58

I was similar for my birthday this year, struggling with recurrent MC and feeling angry at life, so I decided to go axe throwing.. it was quite therapeutic 😂 if there was a rage room near me I would have done that instead
We then had a nice meal and drank a lot of cocktails 😅

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 08/04/2025 19:59

I'm a big kid who loves theme parks. I've booked a cookery class on my birthday before. Otherwise massage and then bottomless brunch? Or cinema? Shopping? I like the idea of axe (or knife) throwing too. Archery?

Caerulea · 08/04/2025 20:00

An Escape Room is always my answer to this kind of thing :)

GetMeOutOfMeta · 08/04/2025 20:02

I'd do one active thing (maybe a nice bike ride, or pay for an hour canoeing, walk to a nice pub) then have a good meal somewhere nearby with people that are important to me. I always pay for others to join me on my birthdays though as I think I would rather spend time with them if they are free than having them worry about cost. I don't enjoy people imposing their idea of fun on me then expecting me to pay but I find people will come or take the day off if I offer. I don't take offence at that and it makes me happy to see people on my birthday than do things solo.

ZippyPeer · 08/04/2025 20:03

Lunch then to the theatre to see a musical - always uplifting!

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/04/2025 20:05

Fresh air is good for distracting me, especially near water. There is something about it that clears the mind, that and afternoon tea.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 08/04/2025 20:36

Paddleboarding (along a river as you're far from the coast), the water and motion is healing! I'd have a massage after and then go to a comedy night after a nice dinner out, or I'd get one of those at-home chefs in to make something delicious for my favourite people - lots of wine and laughing together.
