Under-lash cluster eyelash extensions, WTF?

Here for traffic really.

My natural lashes are blonde and very sparse. I find the only mascara that looks good tends to smudge and is also a bugger to clean off at the end of the day, so thought I’d give these a go.

These are advertised all over social media right now and the girls demonstrating how to apply them make it look really easy.

I’m really good at using regular strip lashes so thought these would be a doddle.

Bought some by a leading established brand in a natural brown colour which are pre glued. I chose the cluster ones that you apply under your lashes (to look more natural). You get given an applicator you use to pick them off the packet and you hold your eye wide open and apply them under the lash line. You then use the applicator to clamp them to your lashes to secure them. You probably need 3-4 clusters per eye applied along the upper eyelid under the lash line.

I gave it a go, and what ensued was a very frustrating 45 minutes of swearing ending up in me removing the very few that did actually stick so that I could re do my makeup without them. My eyes were really sore and sensitive and I spent the rest of the day with weeping eyes.

What am I doing wrong?

The main problems I had:

  1. Once you’ve picked the lash up with the applicator, and apply it to your under lash, it often then doesn’t want to come completely unstuck from the applicator
  2. If you have managed to successfully complete step 1, then when you go back to clamp it secure, the lash then often gets re stuck to the applicator
  3. All this messing around close to the lash line is irritating, so the more you have to do, the more sore your eyes get.
  4. This often ends up with the lash cluster getting twisted or damaged so it then can’t be used
  5. If you have managed to successfully apply the lash and clamp it secure then it often moves and can be felt when you blink.

Has anyone on here successfully used these, and if so, then what am I doing wrong?

I was tempted by these, but then read they are nowhere near as easy to apply as Social Media would suggest! This would go double for me as I’m so cackhanded 😄
Sorry - very annoying and frustrating for you.

I use these but they do take some practice. They shouldn’t stick to the applicator as the sticky bit should never be on the applicator - you lift it by the lashes, not the pre glued bit. If you do get any glue on the applicator you need to remove it as then it will just stick to every lash you do and make it much harder. Ditto with clamping, you don’t want to be clamping the applicator on any exposed glue.

It can be fiddly but just look at the first few times as a bonus if they work out. I can do them quite quickly now but the first couple of times I had weird angles, ones hanging off at the sides, all sorts!

On the flip side, I am dreadful at strip lashes! Never managed to get the hang of those.

I struggle with the pre glued ones, so I buy the plain ones that come with a tube of bond and seal. Coat the under of my eyelashes with the bond like mascara, then hold the lash at the end with the tweezers and stick them on. I always work from the inside out too, even though the instructions say the opposite.

I had to ask my friends 15 year old daughter to show me the first time, but now I can get a full set on in 10 mins and they last a couple of days

@EmmaEmEmz thanks for the tips. I’ll have another go!

@doodleschnoodle It’s difficult to pick them up by the non pre glued bit as if you don’t grip the whole strip, they break away from the packet and get distorted. I’ll give it another go when I can face it! Grr!

I bought some a couple of weeks ago and had your exact experience. Going to try again at weekend when I have no plans and won't see anyone, so they will probably go on like a dream 😏

I got the Lola’s lashes ones and it took 2 goes but now I’m obsessed.

  1. when you place them under the lash give them a little wiggle so they cling on to the lash, this stops you accidentally pulling them off when you remove the tweezers
  2. when using the clamp, don’t clamp right on to the glued strip, clamp in the middle of the lash
  3. if any of the glue strip touches the tweezers or clamp make sure you wipe it off so they don’t stick to the lashes
