To humbly brag that I completed a marathon yesterday?

It took me 7 hours 20 minutes, I’m sunburnt and blistered to fuck but so proud of myself. I always wanted to be able to say I’d done a marathon but didn’t want to actually do the work. But now I can!

I know some runners won’t see it as an achievement because it was so slow and I walked a lot of it, but fuck me it was tough. One of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

so AIBU to sit back and glow in my achievement?

YABU

Because you shouldn’t do it humbly. Brag loudly and proudly!

Well done

Zippedydodah · 07/04/2025 12:00

Gosh! Well done you!!
I couldn’t even run 1km, so in awe of those who do marathons 👏

Roselilly36 · 07/04/2025 12:02

Well done OP, that’s quite an achievement.

MargotB · 07/04/2025 12:03

YANBU, that's a huge achievement. Congratulations!!!!!

lovemycbf · 07/04/2025 12:05

partygarden · 07/04/2025 12:06

Yay we’ll done! Me too, Brighton marathon, it was SO hot?! I’m so sun burnt on my arms and neck, like BRIGHT red, and my legs and tummy are so sore today. Im also exhausted 😂but yes what an achievement!! woo hoo 🥳🎉

DramaAlpaca · 07/04/2025 12:08

Well done! You should be so proud @MyGhastIsFlabbered. Shout it from the rooftops!

So should the rest of you who've done marathons and half marathons. You deserve your medals.

PiggyPlumPie · 07/04/2025 12:12

Blooming well done! I was thrilled that I ran the Derby 10k yesterday in the heat so extra kudos to you.

As I always say, you were on the move for a lot longer than the winners and I can't see the likes of Mo Farah staying out for 6 hours plus!

Notstrongandstable · 07/04/2025 12:17

Amazing achievement! Well done

MabelBayleylivesinWigan · 07/04/2025 12:17

Christ, I’m exhausted just thinking about it. Sat down and am having a cup of tea.
Raising my cup to you @MyGhastIsFlabbered and very well done!

Flibbertyjibberty · 07/04/2025 12:19

Well done! I did the Brighton marathon in 2023 and it was not the easiest course. You should definitely feel very proud of yourself!!

Exactly. It's partly what puts me off doing a marathon because even if I ran it all I don't think I would finish in less than 5 hours which is a very long time to be plodding away. 7 hours is even more and really shows determination to complete no matter what.

Aworldofwonder · 07/04/2025 12:58

AMAZING. well done

WearyAuldWumman · 07/04/2025 12:59

Well done!

Serpentstooth · 07/04/2025 13:29

Congratulations, a wonderful achievement. Sit back and relax in the glow of a hot bath. You must ache😀

GymBergerac · 07/04/2025 13:32

Happy post of the day! Enjoy the medal, the blisters, the aches and the warm feeling of satisfaction, you've earned them! (I may have worn my medal to work for three days 😂) Oh, and enjoy eating all the food! 😁

SoapCollector · 07/04/2025 13:38

A big well done to OP and all the other runners on this thread! I'm in the very early stages of couch to 5k and you are all an inspiration for me to keep going 🥵

Love that, wearing your medal to work for three days! I'm impressed you could walk after! 😁

CampfireZen · 07/04/2025 13:48

Brilliant job, OP!

Great achievement and you totally SHOULD feel enormously proud of yourself.

dizzydizzydizzy · 08/04/2025 01:17

Brag away! Well done OP. Doing a marathon is Hard. Book yourself in for a deep tissue massage in the next few days, if possible.

Smallsalt · 08/04/2025 01:26

Don't be humble, do full on brag!
I did for my first marathon.
Hell, I bragged when I made curtains!

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 08/04/2025 01:43

Well done you! And I’m impressed at your time too! I once did a walking marathon, it was a full 26.2 mile but no running just walking and I did it in 8 1/2 hours. I was so chuffed that I even completed it. Couldn’t walk for the next few days but still 😊

To actually run a marathon, hats off to you!

BrickHedgehog · 08/04/2025 01:51

Well done @MyGhastIsFlabbered . My sister is doing her first ( and last ) marathon in London later this month but she did the 10 mile Disney Run in Orlando yesterday and it was very hot even early in the morning .

RoundSquareWithTriangles · 08/04/2025 11:59
