To think 2 unregistered vehicles close by is possibly dodgy?

Could be wrong!

A house close by sold a few months ago, one or two men arrive at odd times to do work in there. Not that unusual, but another neighbour showed concern after hearing an argument, where one of the men seemed afraid of the other, hard to explain, but in a really desperate and terrified way.

Since we already thought it was curious, DH checked the car registrations belonging to the two guys and neither are registered. We are in Cheshire, one of the plates suggests Southampton, but is untraceable.

We ran a few other (legit neighbour) vehicles through the checker and they were ok, just to see if it might be random. Seems an odd coincidence?

Just to add, it isn't a drug farm as we can see in, and were invited in for a quick chat weeks ago. Just looks empty in there, needs plastering, etc.

In what way aren't the plates registered?

StrangeAntics · 06/04/2025 21:29

Will ask DH for website he used when he gets in (registration check??).
It was a reg checker, said both were unregistered. didn't exist.
Tried placing a few other cars nearby into it and all tallied up.

Just curious tbh, you get an odd feeling sometimes, but know you could be wrong!

You can get an app where you can check whether a car has an MOT and/or Tax based on the reg.

How interesting!
The work on / in the property could be something criminal, equally could be legitimate & the guys were just arguing, albeit one threatening the other. Maybe a worker is here illegally?
The vehicles sound dodgy, at the very least - fake plates, so no insurance etc. I’d contact my local police for them to take a look at it based on the cars alone; if there’s anything else illegal then I’m sure it will follow.
(Meanwhile, stay safe & low
profile)

Never heard of Motor Scan. DVLA vehicle check on gov.uk will give you all that information and more.

This is world-class nosey neighbour, twitching curtains behaviour. Running your neighbour's cars reg plates? Mental!

StrangeAntics · 06/04/2025 21:50

Will ignore the goad-y comment! Grin

As far as I am aware, the argument was unusual, not sure how to explain that. One guy saying saying he could ruin the other's family if he didn't go along with - whatever the fuck it was.
Guy starts crying and begs, actually begs for forgiveness, so yeh, that weird.

Occasionally one of them brings a car full of young kids to the property, who are told to stand in a straight line outside. It's weird, but not necessarily a negative. We are naturally intrigued. Anyone who says they wouldn't be is being very naughty.

Depending what's up here, you might say someone might need more of a nosey neighbour!

I know that, but if the car has switched plates, or gets its MOT via the LA private hire, the sites don't always show the correct details. I've just put a relative's motability car in and the place of registration isn't correct.

But, It would seem that the car is dodgy, in OP's case.
OP I'd keep out of watching them completely, they might be real trouble.

StrangeAntics · 06/04/2025 22:13

Just tried the DVLA/GOV site and still unregistered or unfindable.

If one guy seemed to be there under duress, then report to the Modern Slavery helpline with all the details: 08000 121 700. Include vehicle information and anything you've seen with the children involved.

Had considered this, at least as a caution, but would prefer not to jump to conclusions.
However, since I mentioned this comment/potential, DH has took a mood on me.

Here we have a diversion i had not anticipated.
