(Light-hearted!)

I'll start....

1). You need to put together at least 2 pieces of flat-pack furniture .

  1. To travel by plane and have a delay of at least 5 hours having run out of the local currency

3). To spend a weekend away together with the in-laws where there is one disaster eg power cut or car breaks down.

Any more ideas?

Flat pack furniture was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title!

PoorUncleBarry · 06/04/2025 20:31

Surprise inspection of the living areas by a 3rd party. A non-piss sprinkler will not cope living with a piss sprinkler who just leaves it there.

SwanRivers · 06/04/2025 20:31

What's the point in me having a husband if I have to do flat pack myself?? 😱😱

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/04/2025 20:32

Have each others parents visit for an extended stay.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 06/04/2025 20:32

One person gets ill or injured. The 'task' element might mean you have to fake this.

senua · 06/04/2025 20:37

Go camping.
No make-up. No electricals. Self-catered, no pub meals. A walk of at least 5 miles.

Solasum · 06/04/2025 20:39

Each person needs to lose the use of at least one limb for 48 hours, and look after each other.

TheNightingalesStarling · 06/04/2025 20:40

Look after a demanding pet with separation anxiety for a weekend (closest I could think of to having a child!)

TartanMammy · 06/04/2025 20:41

You both get violent d&v at the same time and only have one bathroom.

Agree! Particularly the putting up the tent aspect, even better if it's raining. That sorts the wheat from the chaff.

Dolallytats · 06/04/2025 20:45

The first one made me laugh cos me and DH nearly split up one christmas eve while putting a kids trampoline together!!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 06/04/2025 20:48

I think illness/whinging about being poorly.

Overhaul54 · 06/04/2025 20:49

See the other person drunk in both private and public.
And the morning after.

A timed task to see how long it takes to find : a working spare battery, new toilet roll, a matching set of bedclothes.

A hotel check in task. Points for friendliness to staff, good room selection, bringing wine or snacks, being able to share an entire suite effectively.

NameChangedForThis2025 · 06/04/2025 20:49

One of you has to teach the other one how to drive.

This!

Livelaughlurgy · 06/04/2025 20:50

One person drives one person navigates.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/04/2025 20:50

We pay other people to assemble flat pack furniture.
I would stick pins in my eyes before agreeing to go camping.
DH was wonderful when I badly broke a limb.

Half of this is about finding solutions.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 06/04/2025 20:50

A massive spider enters the house and someone needs to dispose of it

Living this currently and would agree would be great to have as a pre marriage test 😂

Haha great thread! DH and I used to do this before we decided to have children to see if we’re ready for kids:
Put IKEA furniture together.
Keep houseplants alive.
Travel to a destination using maps only without gps or satnav. Can ask people for directions.

ClowningArounds · 06/04/2025 20:53

Plan a wedding! So stressful. My husband and I used to stay when we were planning ours thank god we really liked each other and being married would hopefully be worth it because it would split up weaker couples.

Bushmillsbabe · 06/04/2025 20:54

Have an alarm go off every 2 hours every night for a week, and each person has to take turns at getting up, staying up for at least 15 mins - if intend on having children.
Minus points for refusing to get up or 'competitive tiredness'

Oh god if keeping houseplants alive was a prerequisite me and my husband would be loooooooong over. One corner of our lounge is basically a plant graveyard 😅(luckily our child is doing well though).

BraOffPjsOn · 06/04/2025 20:55

Set multiple alarms throughout the night where you have to stay awake for at least half an hour each time. Then you have to have the in-laws ‘visiting’ all of the next day, whilst the house is a mess and everyone’s expecting food and drink.
on repeat…

I don’t think DH and I argued at all before kids so marriage isn’t the issue! 😂

candycane222 · 06/04/2025 20:56

Have an expensive and annoying screw up (lose car keys with no spares available, miss a flight, burn an expensive pan where one person's poor decision/ inattention/ failure to communicate was part of the reason, or could have been. How does the other party respond?

Then reverse the roles.

We had to promise not to blame each other when we got married "even when it was clearly the other person's fault" 😂
