So I am in a position where I am being internally promoted to management- I've never been in a management role before although I have been involved in training new starters.

What are your tips for being a great manager?

Just some notes- WFH is not an option in my line of work as we see the public face to face in our offices, Flexi working is considered however due to the above the hours are somewhat set so doing a compressed week wouldn't be suitable however if a team member wanted to drop days/hours I'd 100% be ok with that.

Did you not have to be interviewed for the promotion?

well that would depend on the company policy and the powers that be, not their line manager

No- the company are against hiring outside people into management and there are no other options.. I'm very good at the role and have taken new starters under my wing so they view that I'm ready. I'll have some great backing behind me and it's only a small team. In terms of managing their workload I'm already in charge of that this will just put in an official chain of command.

I was more looking for little tips but that make a manager stand out from others

Well yea in a way but company policy is that so long as there's at least one person scheduled each day it can be approved and that includes the manager (I'll be working m-f) so we're already covered
