Did you pay a deposit for a funded nursery place?

Hi,

Just went to an open morning for a nursery that I quite liked. Upon me getting ready to leave the deputy stated that there’s a £50 deposit to hold her place - which I’m fine with.

However, upon coming home I realised it said the deposit was for non funded places (my daughter’s will be funded due to the 30 hours free funding that’s due to come out in September except for the £17 daily consumable charge).

I didn’t realise at the time as I read the booklet after I came home. I was a bit worried about losing the place as I really dislike the nursery she’s currently at - but now I feel like they’ve lied to get that £50 out of me because the booklet clearly states it’s for non funded places.

I called the nursery to double check if this was right and she said yes, it’s to hold her place - why does it say in the booklet it’s only payable for non funded places then?

Did anyone else pay a deposit for a funded place?

it’s not even about the £50. More so that I don’t think it’s a great start!

Thanks

I charge a deposit for funded places, I dont know if you're eligible yet and can't just take someone's word for it that they will start. So it sounds normal to me.

It sounds pretty normal to my. It's a relatively nominal amount but discourages people from signing up to hold a place at a 2nd or 3rd choice nursery, then canceling in August if a place comes up at their preferred place.

Yes. My nursery changes more (or they did) if you were wanting a place and using funding
