to think that school meeting dates should NOT be changed because they clash with football

Not school football but some game on the telly. This is a big school meeting to do with extended school/after school activities etc and has been moved from 8pm to 6pm at quite short notice. Apologies to anyone who actually works or has a life and has to organise babysitting/early leaving but you know watching the big game on the telly obviously comes first.

Am gobsmacked!!!!

Now if they had postponed it and moved it to a later date then that wouldnt have been so bad as there is more time to make arrangements. But they have jsut moved it forward 2 hours and just seem to expect people to arrange early leaving at very short notice. And as the meeting is about extended school/breakfast club etc it is is somethign that most working parents would be very interested in and mean that they might miss the meetign due the short notice.

Man Utd played Liverpool on our wedding day - luckily we got married at 3pm and the football was an early kick off - about 11.30 or something.

And Man Utd won - phew!

Gobbledigook · 15/05/2008 12:09

FAQ - don't bother, Man Utd will win

FAQ · 15/05/2008 12:10

my cousin and her DH arrange their wedding to make sure it didn't clash with any Arsenal or Chelsea games (talk about a strange partnership! - ) they walked down the aisle to the Match of the Day theme tune

FAQ · 15/05/2008 12:11

nah - I'll stick it on anyhow, hate hearing LOADS of people talking about big games like that and not really knowing what happened LOL

handlemecarefully · 15/05/2008 12:14

I was going to say that the school had acted prudently because they want to ensure people attend - but having read that they plan to hold the meeting at 6pm instead (which is a very very awkward time for many people - even SAHMS like me, not just WOHMs, since dh isn't back until around 7.30 /8.00 pm)I think it is ridiculous!

handlemecarefully · 15/05/2008 12:15

A change of date might have been better

NotActuallyAMum · 15/05/2008 12:17

Football rules tarantula, didn't you know that

Only kidding of course, hope you and yours are ok

zippitippitoes · 15/05/2008 12:20

well i think loads of non fans will watch

yes a change of date would probably be better

i am very excited about it

zippitippitoes · 15/05/2008 12:20

i am not a non fan tho lololol

TsarChasm · 15/05/2008 12:24

People are obsessed with football in this country. It totally mystifies me but it's best to work round it; you can't fight it.

TsarChasm · 15/05/2008 12:25

Maybe they could reschedule the football round the meeting?

JeremyVile · 15/05/2008 12:28

I think this coutry tends to be rather joyless at times. A distinct lack of community events/celebrations etc.
Shifting a meeting to acommodate those who want to watch a (massive) football match can only be a good thing, surely? (except for those with sticks in inconvenient places)

Gobbledigook · 15/05/2008 12:29

Oh I do agree that a different date entirely would be better.

Like hmc - I am at home anyway because I work from home but dh doesn't get in till around 7pm so I can't attend 6pm meetings and this is the case for many SAHMs so it's not just a working parent issue.

UnquietDad · 15/05/2008 12:47

When is this football match anyway?!
I thought the decisive one was last week?

zippitippitoes · 15/05/2008 12:51

21st may UQ do you really not know pmsl do you not socialise

UnquietDad · 15/05/2008 12:57

I filter it out... I had a vague idea it was some time around now.

maltloafeater · 15/05/2008 13:00

I am that ds it taking maths sats today. Teacher asked how many children were either going to or staying up to watch a local football match. Answer was at least 10 in the year, so school put back start time to allow those who may have had a late night more time to get to shcool!!
I can see the schools point as they want
all children to do their best, but am shocked at the attitude of parents who put football before their childs education. What about all the non footy obsessed children who made it ontime after an early night who now have two hours to get worked up about the test waiting for class mates to drift in.

tarantula · 15/05/2008 13:07

I guess I'm with UQD in that I filter out the football talk. I didnt know anything was on till we got the letter. Guess I wont be goign to the meeting anyway as I cant get home in time as none of the lads will swop to a late shift. Cant think why that might be

UnquietDad · 15/05/2008 13:08

The fact that it wasn't on my radar means that it won't be on that of millions of others.

theBOD · 15/05/2008 13:52

2 english teams playing in the biggest club football game in the world.
i think it's to be expected that a significant percentage would watch that rather than attend a meeting (most likely it's the staff too who are pushing for this).
although probably putting it back a week so as to give everyone time to rearrange would make more sense.

zippitippitoes · 15/05/2008 13:54

lol tarantula

at lads not wanting to swap

i think a few more people might notice it is on by weds

zippitippitoes · 15/05/2008 13:55

i am hoping ot go to london to watch it with bf but he hasnt asked me yet so he might have other plans
