Sending CV after a job has closed

TheMauveZebra · 04/04/2025 09:39

I have seen a job but wasn't quick enough to apply.

I was thinking of sending my CV to the person who is overseeing the recruitment as I want to work for the company and perhaps they would want my application

However I didn't know how to word it.... I'm also perhaps not qualified enough for the job.

Is there any way to contact the company without being weird?

They probably won't accept it. You can contact them and ask though.

SchoolDilemma17 · 04/04/2025 09:40

You are not qualified enough and you missed the deadline. Why bother?

Who says I'm not qualified enough?

No harm in trying.

TheMauveZebra · 04/04/2025 09:42

They stated a compliance qualification is required... Which I have, but there is no min compliance qualification... So I don't know
. Plus I have experience

It’s literally in your post….

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/04/2025 09:44

Just email the recruitment contact apologising for the late submission, you only saw the role posted after the deadline had passed. Set out clearly in your email what it is about you that you think really fits the role criteria and why they should consider you.

Recruiting is about finding the best person for the job: I’ve considered late applications in the past because the individual applying was a really good candidate.

Cynic17 · 04/04/2025 09:44

Don't bother. I would take a dim view of someone who wasn't sufficiently organised to meet the deadline.

Hoppinggreen · 04/04/2025 09:45

Nothing to lose by sending it
Just send it by email and say you saw the job and thought you would be a good fit because of XYZ (with examples).
They will consider you or not, you don't even need to reference the deadline
They might consider other applications first but if there is nobody suitable or you are stand out they may consider you

Britneyfan · 04/04/2025 09:45

OP I’d say you have nothing to lose by trying, just send a polite covering letter acknowledging that you missed the deadline due to not seeing the job advert until it had already closed, but in case you could still be considered for the role or for future opportunities you’ve sent your CV over as it sounds like your dream role/you think you’d be a particularly great fit due to x,y,z. You never know, they might not have had any applicants, or any that they wanted to appoint.

When you say you’re “perhaps” not qualified enough, let them make that decision (unless you’re totally dreaming). There is a lot of research saying women often don’t apply for the jobs they really want because of this sort of worry whereas men often just go for it in an even more under qualified position, and more often than not, get the job.

You said it in your very own post...

Megifer · 04/04/2025 09:48

No harm at all op. Adverts do often stay on past the deadline so just say you only just saw it.

No reasonable hiring manager would think this is a problem.

Mummyratbag · 04/04/2025 09:49

If you don't send it you are 100% not going to get it, if you do they may consider it.. nothing lost.

Apologise and say that you only just saw the advert, were so excited about the opportunity you thought you'd apply and that if you are too late please keep me on record? If you are the best candidate and they'd be mad to miss you because you only saw it after the deadline. It's not like you saw it and ignored the deadline.

Edited to add - if you did see and just weren't quick enough they don't know that!

Cyclebabble · 04/04/2025 09:50

Nothing lost. I work in insurance and am often involved in Compliance recruitment. It can be difficult to get good candidates. If a good CV came outside of the closing date I would still look at it.

RampantIvy · 04/04/2025 09:52

Cynic17 · 04/04/2025 09:44

Don't bother. I would take a dim view of someone who wasn't sufficiently organised to meet the deadline.

If not of the interviewees were right for the post, wouldn't you reconsider?

MellowPinkDeer · 04/04/2025 09:53

I wouldn’t accept after the deadline because all it would say to me is that either you're not really interested or you’re not really organised. Or both.

DancingNotDrowning · 04/04/2025 09:54

Go for it - I’ve done similar twice.

One was for a job that seemed perfect but I got a rejection, I tracked down hiring managers, manager and emailed saying I thought I was perfect for the role and they reopened my application and offered me the job.

Second was for a job that had caught my eye but then closed before I’d submitted a CV, I tracked down the HR head and initially got short shrift but they went on to offer me the job.

Both were a while back and for relatively senior roles, which I think helped: there’s often not huge candidate pools.

just write a polite email saying you saw the job and the application window closed before you’d had the opportunity to apply, set out your key skills and why they should hire you.

Or perhaps only just saw the advert on LinkedIn after the expiry date?

OP posts:
Megifer · 04/04/2025 09:57

Jobs on LI stay on for agggggges. It can be impossible to take them down 😬

The manager will very likely be aware of this so don't think about it too much and get it sent off now 😊 good luck!!

Hoppinggreen · 04/04/2025 09:57

TheMauveZebra · 04/04/2025 09:54

It wouldn't matter to me if I was hiring, I would look at the applications sent on time first and only if there was nobody I wanted to interview or not enough would I consider a late application
Advertising a job usually gets such a huge response now and many people are unqualified or unsuitable but (unless using automation) every one has to be read so a late one would be ingored by me unless I didn't find anyone in the first batch
However, that COULD happen so OP has nothing to lose by sending her CV

TennesseeStella · 04/04/2025 10:00

Why would any manager want to hire someone who can't follow basic instructions?
