I'm watching this now, and it's so very sad, but I completely agree with this.

He's tired and ready to go.

I agree that no one should be forced to do this. But it's cruel to keep people alive when they are in pain .

Wayne had a very dignified death. A death of his choosing. That’s what I hope for.

AlanShore · 03/04/2025 22:33

Yes, I thought so too.

It’s disgusting to show the active process of suicide on TV. The act of killing shouldn’t be shown on TV. Just awful. It shouldn’t be normalised for vulnerable people to see.

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/04/2025 22:50

It was a dignified death, shown in a very sensitive way. We all have to die sometime, I hope mine is as peaceful.

Scutterbug · 03/04/2025 22:51

I thought it was very dignified. People should have the right to choose to die when they are terminally ill.

Clingfilm · 03/04/2025 22:54

A piece of TV that will stay with me a long time.
I'm in full agreement with AD. Don't know if I'd have the balls to do it (easy to say now, as a healthy person) but I fully support the choice.

It shouldn't be entertainment which is what it was.

I'm not sure who is a "vulnerable" person in your eyes but they still have agency and can choose not to watch.

springintoaction321 · 04/04/2025 05:15

I agree with not showing this on TV - vulnerable people may have switched on without realising. I chose not to watch it as felt that was extremely voyeuristic.

Plus - have seen death in reality which is what it is.

springintoaction321 · 04/04/2025 05:16

@Firefly1987 not all people who are vulnerable will have agency - that could be because of mental health problems especially.

Glitchymn1 · 04/04/2025 05:55

I think there are far worse things for a ‘vulnerable’ to switch on to than this.

I haven’t seen it but have watched people die slow, extremely painful deaths- each to their own but I’d rather not go through that process when I’m not coming out the other side. By the time I get there I hope AD is available and easy to access.

Death is so taboo.

Zanatdy · 04/04/2025 05:58

Going to watch this on i-player. Close friend died 2wks ago and watching her suffer in the final weeks I am very pro choice.

springintoaction321 · 04/04/2025 06:00

@Glitchymn1 - why the inverted commas on vulnerable? Is that because you don't believe in vulnerable people?

Weird. Plus no one is advocating a slow and painful death.

MrsMurphyIWish · 04/04/2025 06:05

I didn’t watch it as I’m usually asleep at that time! I did read the article on BBC news yesterday and agreement with you OP. The article described how tender the doctor was with him, and despite being in obvious pain, he died a peaceful death. I remember one line from the article from Wayne. It was something like he said in Britain we have lots of freedoms, this should be another. I agree.

You don’t have to watch it.
Both of my parents were in terrible pain at the end and I thought this programme showed how dignified AD is. Rather that than watch your loved ones suffer as much as mine did.

Would you rather Wayne deteriorate so much, in total agony, to a point where he wouldn’t have been able to take the medication?

His death was dignified and peaceful.

Not entertainment, it was factual tv.

Enigma53 · 04/04/2025 10:28

How was it entertainment? As @Scutterbugmentioned, it was factual only.
