17 yr old lesions on both ovaries

Posting here for traffic as I’m panicking. Dd 17 soon and only got one period about 2 years ago and never came back so doctors kept saying it will come etc . Went for ultrasound yesterday and they rang today to say she has a lesion on each cyst and they are rushing her to get a gynaecologist app . Doctor tried not to worry me, said they are semi solid and she reckons more than likely dermoid cysts.

i don’t know what I am asking really, I’m absolutely terrified they will be cancerous. She is my whole world , I have a week to wait and I don’t know how I can act normal

You have to think and act positive. Very unlikely to be cancer at 17.

Thanks blondemummy, I’ve had a talk with myself and I am going to try and stay positive . Worrying won’t help . And trying to tell myself like you say she’s odds in her favour with age etc

Oh love. This will never not be very worrying for you. I have no experience therefore no advice, but we're here to hold your hand. You will get through this, taking every step as it comes because you have to, for Dd.
Keep being positive and that shoulder for her 💐

Thank you so much. I don’t know why I even posted as I know no one will have answers here but I’m just shaking like a leaf after coming off the phone to the gp. Thank you x

Hopefully just dermoids. Have a google. They’re pretty common and benign. Funny things full of hair and teeth 😬

Hi OP.

I hope I can provide some information to ease your worries.
My mum had ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed after collapsing with a huge swollen tummy. One thing she was told, it is almost always a tumour from one ovary, very very rare to have both ovaries involved.

Due to mum's history I had my ovaries removed. I had polycystic ovaries and both has cysts which were benign.

Someone will. This is MN, it's huge.
I'm sure you must be very shocked, it's totally understandable to feel wobbly.
Is there someone you can lean on in RL? X

My experience is not exactly the same, and we're all different, but I hope it may be of some use for you to hear it.

I had multiple dermoid cysts diagnosed in my twenties, after an undiagnosed/missed partial molar pregnancy (that was a fun year!). On both ovaries. I remember the actual sheer panic of being told that they could see something on the scan and that I needed an X ray (to be able to see the strange bones and teeth in the dermoids). I'd never heard of anything like it before and was sure it meant something horrendous like cancer. I cried my eyes out in the hospital corridor and in the end they got someone to come and speak to me.

I had them all removed - I think there were 19 of them. All dermoids, and one big simple cyst. No traces of cancer. Great surgeon, who did it all very carefully and was very reassuring. I had normal ovarian function after that and have had three normal pregnancies since.

I imagine this is terrifying for your daughter. It is so hard to think of something growing that we don't know about inside us, and to fear the implications of that. But there are plenty of benign conditions that can be very well treated and not affect fertility. Sending you both a big hug and best wishes,
