Just a quick question about tide times

I want to take dd to the beach on Saturday

I planned to get there early, at around 9.30am, and spend a few hours there as it won't be hot

I've posted a screenshot of the tide times - could someone just tell me, if I get there, will the tide be in? (As in, the beach covered in water)?

Tia x

No it should be fine. Low tide is 11.30 so should be going out for 2 hours after you get there and then coming back in. Have a good day. 👍👍👍

Looks like perfect timing. I have the envy. You got an extra bucket and space on your blanket for one more?

Thank you! x

Thought i'd be smart, googling tide times ahead of going, and just did not understand it 😅

It depends on the beach.

But for many beaches, 2 hours either side of low tide is going to mean the sea is a long way out.

Walton in Essex, not too long a drive from London

Is that bordering on the Thames estuary? If so, you may find there's a lot of mud to wade through before getting to the sea.

I recommend Frinton instead of Walton - it’s only 5 mins more up the coast and is FAR nicer. Walton is a bit of a dive.

If you get there at 9.30 the tide will be going out, and will be at its lowest by 11.30am. Could be a very long walk to get to the water!

Then it'll start coming back towards the beach, and will be at its highest by 6pm, when it starts to recede again.

CurlewKate · 02/04/2025 20:33

It’ll be on the way out, which is not ideal, and depending on the beach might mean a long walk and/or a lot of mud. Can you make an earlier start?

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 02/04/2025 20:35

We don't want to go into the water as it'll be quite cold

Just want to play on the sand and then get some chips

Oh Frinton is nice, but does it have good parking 🙈

I remember walton has a lot of parking along the beach and then lots of parking near a leisure centre

Would the sand be muddy? We won't go in the water as it'll only be a max of 12 degrees anyway

She loves sand so she will be happy with a bucket and spade

I may go out and just fill a bucket up with water for her, now I think about it

At Camber Sands, you have to walk miles to get your feet wet at low tide.

I reckon you're probably halfway to France before it's deep enough to swim in.

WildestDreamer · 02/04/2025 20:57

Walton is a lovely sandy beach, you could also drive further up to the Naze and go hunting for sharks teeth! But there is lots of parking along the seafront.
There should also be lots of beach with those tide times 😊
