Threadworm. Worth starting pre-emptive treatment?

DD5 In Reception- just had the email that someone has threadworms. (And nits...)

DD spends most of the day with a finger in her mouth.
Is it worth us treating is even though she doesn't have symptoms? It's inevitable that she'll get it I guess and don't want them to have the chance to lay lots of eggs...

Should say I have a real problem dealing with worms- it actually keeps me awake at night. And I comb the kids hair with nit combs at least once a month because the idea of bugs living in us gives the cold shivers.

And yes I know we're full of mites and bacteria etc but I just have to create some kind of mental distance to not be scrubbing everything constantly if I think about it. I am more relaxed than I was but if I dwell on it it can take over.

Treating for threadworms will not protect against them in the future so if you treat then there is nothing stopping your child getting them later on. Therefore no advantage in giving your child unnecessary medicines and possibly a risk of causing harm. Do not treat if you have no reason to suspect worms.

I know you shouldn’t but I really wish there was a dewormer/ anti tic/ anti nit tablet that could be given monthly like you do for pets.

I echo the PP. Keep DDs nails short, encourage good hygiene, not biting nails etc.

@Lovelysummerdays yes! Why isn't there... DC pick up far worse than the pets...
