AIBU to want to move Mother's Day? (lighthearted)

First of all - I know Mothering Sunday is the 4th Sunday of Lent when people went home to their Mother Church and took gifts to their mum when they went. Which of course has become Mother's Day in the UK.

My argument for wanting to move Mother's Day, e.g. to the end of March, when it is celebrated in France...

  1. Because of the time of year it falls, there will be years (as this year) when it clashes with BST commencing and we loose an hour of sleep.
  2. See above - there will always be pendants pointing out that it is not Mother's Day, it is actually Mothering Sunday. Fine, but we have Father's Day. Rather than people trying to take our day- let's claim another day instead.
  3. By it's nature, it always falls in Lent. I know fasting is not required on Sundays in Lent, but it still seems a bit harsh to have a celebration of mums, when many of the gifts are those not being eaten by some of the participants. Here's some chocolates mum, even though you have given them up. Enjoy looking at the box

So - AIBU?
YABU - of course Mother's Day should stay when it is, it's tradition.

YANBU - let Mothering Sunday stay as a religious day for those who wish - but Mother's Day would be better moved to a day of it's own.

Sundays are exempt from whatever you give up for Lent.

It moves , it was the end of March this year.

most countries have opted for May.

I like the fact we stick to tradition

YANBU, OP!! I give up booze for lent and it really annoys me that Mother’s Day is mid-Lent when it is often cold, whereas Father’s Day falls in Beer Garden season!

I know it moves, so it isn't always the start of BST. It is always in Lent though.

I only discovered a few years ago that Sunday's are not fast days. The point still stands though that even if you are fasting, you potentially have a lovely present you have you put your gift to one side the next day. There is no such issue for dads. I am probably a bit more sensitive with this as my birthday often falls in Lent too.
