Disabling automatic clock updates…

Given how clever all the people at Apple, Microsoft, Yoto etc are… why for the love of god do they not have a setting to allow you to delay the automatic clock change. When everything was manual - given we have a chilled Sunday morning - we used to leave it til after breakfast. Yes, I know it’s not technically the correct time but the kids not waking us up an hour ‘early’ was bliss. Especially on Mother’s Day!!!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!

I don’t understand? It’s (new time) 8.14 and (old time) 7.14 how would it be an hour early , wouldn’t it be an hour late?

TwinklyTornadoBear · 30/03/2025 08:40

Because the kids know to stay in bed til 7 - except that’s the time that used to be six. You lose an hour, so it’s an hour earlier in terms of your body clock.

Why do your children have a high-tech gadget that automatically updates in their bedroom? Sure my phone and laptop automatically update but there's nothing like that in my DCs room

Oh I get it, sorry I always get so confused with the clocks. Yes makes sense but tbh I think so many people forget no one much would disable it.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/03/2025 08:48

Just go to bed earlier the night before.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 30/03/2025 08:50

DS came in early as his yoto had updated. I actually prefer it as I would rather cracked on with the new time and get used to it straight away. I guess there probably isn't much demand for a feature for one day a year (presumably you don't mind it when the clocks go back and you get an extra hour).

Tillow4ever · 30/03/2025 10:07

If you don’t like it just turn on the manual setting in your phone etc? It’s not rocket science.

I turned the Bluetooth off on my phone to see if that prevented the kids smart watches updating but it didn't. No idea how they DID update! We are staying with family so slightly later bedtime which isn't ideal along with early waking. Early bed for them tonight!

Judgey much! They have Yotos - screen free audio players which have a small icon and also work as a clock. We don’t have any tablets either, but my mum is visiting and has an Apple Watch.

I’m mildly reassured that someone sympathises with my first world problem! It

It's only once a year, so you could invest in padlocks?

I moved since last spring. I have everything except one thing on automatic updates now. Just had a new boiler control though, and remembered to put it an hour forward last night (still a bit nippy in the mornings here). Buggeration. It actually does update itself (which was so not obvious), but because I'd reset the time it actually moved yet another hour to two hours forward instead of the one!!!!
