Been seeing a fella abt a year. Once a week or so so id say casual. Hes been divorced for years am has an older child and grandchild. I know he talks to his ex am sees her at family dos. We went out last nite am back to hes an i asked if he still loves his ex. He said "a little bit: it really threw me as i quite like him. Is it normal for him to have these feelings for his ex or am i overthinking things

If that's the mother of his child, I'd find it quite respectful for him to admit, especially if they have a good co-parent relationship, and maintain good relationships due to shared grown children and grand. children.

It all depends on the situation

That was hard to decipher, but yes it's possible to have loving feelings for an ex.

Gonk123 · 29/03/2025 08:48

It sounds quite a casual relationship after a fair amount of time together. I dont think it’s a problem unless you want to progress things and find it’s not just family do’s. Then maybe you have to just think about if you can cope with him seeing her. You can’t force change though. Sounds like it’s probably just quite amicable with his ex, which is refreshing.

If dp said that to me, the relationship would be over. We've been together for a long time and both have children from previous relationships.

I think it's lovely that he's a) being honest and b) he still cares for the mother of his child.

Does he love her, or is he in love with her? Personally I don't now love the person I had children with - but I do still love a different ex. We were best friends before we got together. The fact that we didn't work out as a couple hasn't changed the friendship that came before.

Maybe im overthinking it. Im glad he was honest with me. He is quite an honest person and i understand people can still love someone who they have kids etc with. Think it just threw me a bit an made me realise i like him more than thought!

I’d consider it a huge red flag for you to ask that question.

INeedAnotherName · 29/03/2025 10:37

In love with, or just loves? There are different types of love such as for a child, a parent, a pet, or even for the parent of a joint child.

The fact you don't seem to fully understand that makes me think you are possibly the red flag in this relationship. Do you normally have jealous feelings or only in this relationship, if so why do you feel unsettled with him?

Possibly me. Maybe bit insecure. Its nice he has good relationship with ex and he didnt say he in love with her. I asked if he loves her an he said a little bit, so maybe im overthinking as i dont have the same relationship with my ex
