I know I know, it’s no doubt this weekend because of the moon or the tides or the position of Jupiter or something but seriously - why do we have to lose an hour on Mother’s Day?! Would it be so hard to move it a week?

YABU- if you have young children you’re no doubt up at the crack of dawn anyway so what does it matter?

YANBU- it’s mean and vindictive 😂

I have told my family that I can claim that hour at a time of my choosing.

I will probably do this many times over the next year. 😁

TennesseeStella · 28/03/2025 20:53

The world doesn't revolve around you just because you've popped out a few sprogs, you know! 😜

Ifailed · 28/03/2025 20:54

Unless you are planning to visit you Mother Church, OP, you have nothing to whinge about.

Ah it’s so tough when you have little ones, but it’s not for long, clock changes don’t really matter when they’re bigger and you can just sleep in anyway! They’ll soon be a non deal again as they were pre kids!

I think mine have given up sleeping for lent 😂❤️

I don’t know how anyone even really notices an hour either way. Don’t you just acclimatise after a day or so? You can’t really do anything about the Equinox. The amount of wailing and lamenting about it just seems a little out of proportion for what is a pretty minor inconvenience.

AgnesX · 28/03/2025 21:01

I just wish the clock wouldn't change at all. At any time of year.

This year it's just bad luck it's this weekend.

RosesAndHellebores · 28/03/2025 21:05

It will be marvellous on Monday when it's light at 7.20pm. It rocks.

The DC might sleep a bit longer in the mornings because it will be darker.

Roll on summer.

Do you know people with babies or toddlers? Ask them.

I viewed the OP as a light-hearted ‘rant’. I don’t think she wants to submit a formal complaint to the authorities?

SwanOfThoseThings · 28/03/2025 21:12

It's currently the last Sunday in March whenever it falls, even if it's Easter Sunday. It's entirely a legislative decision - it used to specifically exclude Easter Sunday, but the present dates for 'daylight saving times' were aligned across the EU in 1995. The EU now wants all its member states to pick a year round time and stick to it, but that law has been stalled for years.

Now we are no longer in the EU, it would be within the government's power to change it to exclude particular dates such as Easter Sunday or Mother's Day but presumably they don't want to open up the whole can of worms about whether the clocks should change at all.

So do Mothers day when the Americans do it.

Marry an American and get the best of both worlds. I get 2 mother's days every year.

Ew

Some of us dont make a big deal about mothers day.
Its just sunday to me.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 28/03/2025 21:16

I don't understand the issue with babies and toddlers since they work on their own internal body clock not gmt or bst. Getting my teen up for school on Monday is going to be hell but what's the issue with babies. Dawn is still Dawn even if it's it's showing an hour later on the clock.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 28/03/2025 21:17

YADNBU my sleep is not to be messed with!!! X

Now there’s an idea though - who should I complain to do you reckon? Straight to Starmer/King Charles or should I start a bit lower down the chain? 😁

Why not move Mothers' Day instead? Or just do away with both of them altogether?

For the summer one I think it’s more the evening that’s the issue, especially when it’s lighter. I think the winter one is more of a bummer with little ones as you don’t benefit from the extra hour because of their internal clock!

RainbowSlimeLab · 28/03/2025 21:24

I'm dreading Monday morning. Tried to persuade my 5yo to go to bed earlier tonight. It didn't work. Great I'm going to have to forsake my early morning me-time for the next few days to make sure Monday is less of a headache than mornings usually are.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 28/03/2025 21:26

I have them! It’s honestly never been THAT bad. Worse is trying to remember how to change the clock on the oven and the car.

snoopyfanaccountant · 28/03/2025 20:44

Mothering Sunday goes back many centuries and has nothing to do with Hallmark.

It also has nothing to do with mothers! Mothers Day was the date on which everyone went back to their "mother church". That is why the date is fixed by the church calendar. So if you really want to celebrate mothers day, pop to your local church/ The way we celebrate it now definitely has more in common with the American tradition rather than the British one. In which case it can be any date you want - the church calendar is fixed and doesn't change for anything.

It’s a pretty common frustration for those with babies and toddlers, it’s good it doesn’t impact you, but no need to dismiss it for others.

scalt · 28/03/2025 21:33

Some people just have too much time on their hands, to be worrying about this.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist it!)

YourBestFriend · 28/03/2025 21:36

Don't be pathetic, OP.
