Urgent advice child trust fund natwest

My son had a trust fund with NatWest. I found it a few months ago and it was at £1700 . In a month it went up and down and settled at £1650 on his 18th ( yesterday ) .

Today he went on to verify, it wouldn’t accept his details so says we have to send info. We then went and initiated the process , selected to withdraw it all and close the account and provided a bank statement as proof of address. We clicked withdraw . It said they will sell his shares and then make a payment .Then it just changed to £0!
When we go on now it just says that the balance of his trust fund is £0 and “ your maturity instruction is in progress “

Please tell me this is normal and he will still get the money 😭😭😭😭😭

So sorry I can't help as finance isn't my sector, but I hope someone comes along soon, who can 🤞

dementedpixie · 28/03/2025 18:25

Was it a stocks and shares CTF?
Sounds like they're processing the request to close the fund and release the payment

anniegun · 28/03/2025 18:26

Nat West might be a better place to ask the question than Mumsnet

dementedpixie · 28/03/2025 18:26

I assume he provided a bank account for the money to be paid into?
Is there a number he can call to confirm what's happening?

BlueMum16 · 28/03/2025 18:27

Sounds like you've instructed them to sell your shares and send you the cash.

It usually takes a day or so to hit your account.

my son received trust fund money last week from natwest.they set his balance to zero then 8 days later received a cheque through the post for what the initially said the value was.hth

dementedpixie · 28/03/2025 18:30

The natwest website says it can take a few weeks for the money to be transferred to another account

They have a number to call

Yes completely normal. You have instructed them to sell which can take a few working days. The balance will then be transferred to the account details given. Normally takes around 2 weeks in all

Obviously. However , NatWest isn’t open at this time on a Friday night. Mumsnet is .

Thank you everyone I feel a bit more reassured . They’re closed so I can’t ask and I was panicking . He’s autistic , I didn’t want him to know what it was until it’s all confirmed but had no choice as he has to deal with them so I don’t know what I would do if he got nothing

We’ve recently had this with NatWest.
Same as pp, the balance was zero and then he received a cheque a few days later.

We tried to put the details in to verify his identity but it kept saying they weren’t recognised. We did then put them in on another part and submitted it . Also uploaded his bank account as proof of address. It said we need to verify his bank by post - which is to send a bank statement ( even though we uploaded it ) and a copy of his PASScard for ID.

We did also upload a photo of his PASScard. It only had an option for a passport or driving licence - he has neither - but it did state on another document that a PASScard was suitable photo ID for under 21’s , I tried to clarify this with the online chat and they just kept sending me the same document that said it was acceptable. I was trying to find out HOW I submit that as there was only the option for driving licence or passport .. so I just uploaded it under driving licence.

It did also state on that document that we needed certified copies of certain documents- so I got his college tutor to sign a photo copy of his NI letter and a photo copy of his PASScard but it didn’t ask for this so I will just send it in the post with his bank statement.

The whole process is quite confusing .

Yes , what I uploaded was fine! I called them and explained and they said that was fine and he had the money about a week or so later

Thank you, he actually received a cheque in the post yesterday, despite being told it was being sent to his bank account. He managed to pay it in and it cleared today, so he is very happy!
