I’ve just watched tonight’s Eastenders episode early on iplsyer

but it’s not the same as everyone tuning in at the same time at 7.30

i want to go back to 1983 …

I miss the feeling of looking forward to a weekly programme or one of the soaps at a set time on TV. There was always someone at work who had watched it at the same time too so we would chat about anything particularly dramatic the next day. Even the odd phone call or text straight after to friends or family about it. Streaming services have taken a lot of the fun out of TV.

I was thinking about this earlier today. DS came home after school, straight into Netflix, and a part of me felt sad that he’ll never know what it is to look forward to a show or wait in anticipation for the next episode.

i miss those times terribly

The excitement of awaiting Grange Hill after school. And Dallas on a Wednesday evening!

Talking about Top of the Pops the next day at school, which everyone seemed to have watched. And Neighbours/Home & Away.

Luckily I like many sports and so do my colleagues so we still talk about “last nights tv” to an extent. It’s not quite the same though.

No "water cooler moments" any more

Trees6 · 27/03/2025 09:54

I think the closest thing to a water cooler moment in the last decade was the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special last year, which a lot of people sat down to watch live. It trended on social media quickly and I remember talking about it with an acquaintance on Boxing Day morning in the supermarket, and then overhearing two young shelf-stackers discussing it too.

Yes very true. Loved it!

Some shows are still released weekly, and its more convenient to be able to watch online and stream tv. I never watch anything live apart from some sport really

No one is stopping you watching at 730?
