It’s a parking one

We have had someone park across our driveway this seems to be most days, for between 2 mins and 30 mins, while their child gets off the school transport (their child has SEN) this person lives about 10 houses down.

I approached them to ask them not to do this and they can park their car in numerous places and that they had blocked me getting off my drive the day before by 30 mins, when I had an important appointment. well I got a mouthful telling me that I was a Cu£t and they were not parked just stopped the fact they were out of their car chatting to the transport driver and going into their house to get bags etc.

They are now parking across the drive and not moving at all every single day, AIBU to call the council so that they get a bloody park ticket.

Before drop off today move your car off your drive and park it in her this blocking her in.

Or drop a box of nails in front of your driveway.

If you want to ‘keep using your drive out of principle’….. wtaf?

OP likely has car insurance based on her car being parked on a private drive when not in use at home. She might struggle with an insurance claim if it's parked on the road.

There's only one way of stopping her blocking you in, soooo..

There is more than one way - talk to her. That hasn't worked.
Raise it with the council.

This will be transported contacted by the local council (dd had this when at school). Speak to the school to home transport people in the council offices and they should take it up with the taxi firm

The taxi driver is not blocking my drive and is parking perfectly legally.

I believe the Mum has asked the Taxi driver to stop where they are stopping.

I just want to be able to get off my drive without someone completely blocking it everyday

You are right the taxi is parking legally. But where they are dropping of the child is causing you issues. Therefore, they will not want to be the cause of community inconvenience as is happening with this parent. They may be able to work out a better solution and there is no harm in finding out just why they have agreed to the arrangement that seems to require the use of your driveway to work.

Plus if they are part of the council provision, then you can discuss it with the parking enforcement team that you have also started to try to work with the taxi service.

The point you need to make is that for the current situation to work, that parent relies on your driveway. This was never an acceptable arrangement without your permission.

SinnerBoy · 26/03/2025 14:21

I agree with speaking to her whilst videoing all round the car, so as to show it blocking you. Speak politely and point out that you've asked her several times, to no avail.

Repeat every day for a week, without speaking after the first day. Show the videos to the council and Police.

I would try the school. I live near a school and they will speak to the parents if they are parking so they inconvenience parents.

OP doesn't live near a school
The inconvenience is being caused by a parent meeting the school transport when it drops off before/after school.

Flossflower · 26/03/2025 14:56

@Hoppinggreen she could still try the school. It is a parent picking up their child.

Since the driver called OP a cunt I can't imagine they'll care about the school talking to them.

So if I block in my neighbour when I get home from the school run they should call my DC's school?

The taxi driver is dropping the child off outside your house, which is causing the problem. Just talk to them.

I may be misunderstanding here but The Taxi is NOT blocking OP's drive (or calling her a Cunt) so how will speaking to him help?
He is parking legally and properly to drop off a child as requested, what anyone collecting said child does is none of his business.

Yes, you are misunderstanding, but I can't make my post any clearer.

Which bit am I misunderstanding? help me out here
Is it that is IS actually the Taxi that is blocking her drive?
Because its the only reason I can think of for OP speaking to the Taxi driver about it

Pumpkincozynights · 26/03/2025 15:40

I agree with the poster saying to film her and her car and reg and send to the police and council. Also put it on fb. Make and shame her. I would also park where she parks, you shouldn’t have to but it will prevent her from parking there.

Crumpleton · 26/03/2025 15:46

Yes, blocking you from leaving your driveway is classed as an obstruction.

I'd call the police on 101 and explain that you've ask the person if they could move up the road slightly but we're given a mouth full of abuse and as you missed/were late for an appointment due to not being able to get out and not wanting to be in either position of being abused or missing any future appointments again would it be possible to send an officer out, especially as it's happening at a set time, to have a word with her.

Hopefully they'll do so and it'll put an end to it.

TickingAlongNicely · 26/03/2025 15:49

I wouldn't put it on Facebook simply because its SEN transport... too easy for her to make it look like you are the bad guy not liking her disabled child.

So you want OP to talk to the taxi driver? Why?? They're not blocking OP's drive. They're parking legally to drop the child off. It's the neighbour that's blocking OP's driveway.

The only possible reason to speak to the taxi driver would be to ask why they don't drive up the neighbour's drive, but more than likely it's because the neighbour has told them not to. But then that's not OP's issue either. Her issue is with the person that's blocking her driveway.

Dashcam, record, ask, repeat and report any abuse.

Contact your council parking enforcement team or your local councillor - they might be able to speak to the parking enforcement team on your behalf.

So if I block in my neighbour when I get home from the school run they should call my DC's school?

No but when my children were at senior school they had a school bus. One of the bus stops was near a pub. The parents dropped their children off and picked them up in the pub car park. The pub landlord complained to the parents that he didn’t want them parking there unless they were customers. The parents took no notice. The landlord of the pub then wrote to the school and said he didn’t mind in the morning but he didn’t want parents waiting in the evening in the car park, unless they were customers. The school sent messages out and told the parents they were not allowed to do this and if they continued their children would not be allowed on the school bus.
I think this is similar.

Hoppinggreen · 26/03/2025 16:49

Well its certainly worth a go
