To think this would be a rubbish mother's day present?

A soft play local to me has posted on Facebook suggesting a voucher as a good idea for a mother's day present, on the premise that mums can enjoy a hot drink while the kids play. Or as a gift for grandmother's so they can spend one on one time with their grandchildren.

AIBU to think this would be a rubbish gift? If I want to take my DC to the seventh circle of hell soft play I will... but that's not a gift for me! Equally, my mum/MIL are wonderful grandmothers, and are happy with a card and bunch of flowers on mothers day, but think even they'd raise a eyebrow at receiving this!

(For clarity, my DH has assured me I'm not getting this for mothers day!)

You’d have to really hate someone to get them this. Absolutely, completely HORRIFIC.

This is about the size of it🤣

That’s not appealing at all. They are clearly just trying to make money. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to receive that.

To be fair, making money is the only reason ANY company does ANYTHING for Mother's Day.

Agree this would be a crap present though.

They don't like it up 'em.

It would be a great gift if it included dad taking the kids and sending mum off for a spa day/leaving her at home in peace with a bath bomb, chocolate and a good book!

Nothing, I'm sure they are very very nice 😀

I think you might be falling into the trap of assuming that everyone is in the same position you are.

For plenty of grandmas - they enjoy the novelty and excitement of soft play, and a voucher for what they’d see as a fun outing with grandchildren would be a nice gift. With all the ‘is this suitable for their age, are the parents ok with them doing this’ queries covered because the parents bought the voucher.
(others would totally take it as a cheeky request for free babysitting).

For some mums - soft play trips are a nice treat. They’re not routinely affordable for everyone, and if you’re a generally play at home or the park kind of parent and limited on budget / space then a voucher for a soft play outing that covers enough for entry and a coffee would be a nice treat on a cold wet day. Beats standing in a wet and windswept park.
You’d potentially do that anyway without the voucher. Many wouldn’t.

It’s a know your audience for your gift scenario though. Definitely the love it and the lands badly options there .

I salute their chutzpah

My mum asked for ankle weights and trainers for Mother’s Day. Everyone wants different things.

@Jc2001

yes..,, that’s exactly what I said 🙄
