To think I’m not going to fade away any time soon?

I’m now 5 months postpartum and have lost a total of 5kg. My mother is concerned I am going to fade away.

I however would still like to lose more. Do I have some sort of body image distortion issue do you think? Do I look like someone who is seriously emaciated and heading into dangerous territory here?

To think I’m not going to fade away any time soon?

Ignore your mother, my mother is a bit like this too, but then she also thinks that having a hot meal at lunchtime absolves the need for dinner so you can’t win!

I think you’ve done really well in five months, it took me four years and I’m still not quite there yet!!

Olika · 25/03/2025 20:06

I would also ignore your mum and do whatever you want. My mum has something to say about my eating/exercise/body but I just ignore half of it.

You are both very kind. Thank you.

Could be your visible bits look slim! So face, arms(?) maybe?

JustTalkToThem · 25/03/2025 23:05

You're being unreasonable to attach a photo.

aftereightish · 25/03/2025 23:09

No! Your body, your choice. You’d be fine to stay as you are but nothing wrong with losing more of the baby weight.

ItchyLegItis · 25/03/2025 23:11

My health visitor said something similar to me postpartum. To be fair, while my middle was similar to yours, the rest of me was quite skinny. I think my BMI was about 18/19. So.i was quite slight. Not fading away! But the concern was just around making sure I kept my strength up. I wonder if the same applies to you?.people r likely just wanting you to keep your strength up and ensure u r well nourished as it's a tricky time for mum bodies in the postpartum months.

What's your BMI?.what was it before.pregnancy? And have you lost a lot of weight quite rapidly?

Do make sure you are eating enough and keep your strength up! (to quote my old health visitor!)

TheOriginalEmu · 25/03/2025 23:13

It’s impossible to tell from that photo.
is your bmi low? Are you eating well? Are you over exercising? Those matter more than what your stomach looks like

SilenceInside · 25/03/2025 23:14

To be honest, your stomach doesn't look like you're carrying extra weight, but I wonder if you have diastasis recti?

Are you Jarlath Regan's sister?

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 25/03/2025 23:17

I would encourage people not to comment on OP's body in the photo. Posts like this can be used to fuel ED spiralling and we unwittingly become participants.

I am not commenting on whether OP does or doesn't have disordered thoughts regarding her body and food, but it is not worth the risk.

This is exactly what I was like. BMI of 18 and people didn't even realise I'd had a baby. If you're naturally slim then ignore mil and do what makes you happy

LauderSyme · 25/03/2025 23:26

You are definitely slim but don't appear emaciated.

Do you think your mum's concern for your weight loss is at all justified? Because it might be. Or she may be a mother who worries unnecessarily. Be honest with yourself. Eating disorders can be deadly and your baby needs you to be healthy.

What's your BMI now? I think that picture is deceptive as your back is curved, looks like you are pushing your belly out. And also 5 months PP you might well be very thin elsewhere but still seeing some changes to your body shape from the pregnancy.
5kg per month sounds a nice steady loss , but has that been every month or have you lost a lot recently?
Are you breastfeeding? And are you eating balanced meals and exercising or existing on some fruit and a yoghurt and starving yourself?

FearIMayFadeAway · 27/03/2025 13:25

Thanks all. For context this is my third baby and this time the gap between pregnancies was less than 8 months. So I think I probably do have some degree of diastasis recti. I genuinely wasn’t pushing my stomach out here, which I think may be a sign. I’m going to look into this.
