AIBU worrying - CT SCAN CHILD

My 5 year old little girl had a head CT scan yesterday due to some symptoms she was having, thankfully all was fine thankfully 🩷🩷🩷 AIBU but I’m worried SICK about the radiation implications this will have and what she might possibly get from it in the future.

Has anyone else’s little one had one before?? Or does anyone know much about the scan itself?

  • the screen changed to paediatric pictures on the machine so I’m assuming they changed settings?

I would talk to a medical professional about your concerns.

Hi, as it was adjusted to pediatric level this drastically reduces the level of radiation. Please try not to worry. Just curious was this a referral from pediatrics or done in A & E. Just curious as to why they didn't do an MRI instead? So glad your little girl is well

She'll be fine. It's pretty much the same as going on a flight I think. They try to avoid doing lots of them in kids and use MRIs instead, but the occasional one will be all right. My toddler had a few, though most of her scans are MRIs.

She'll be fine. Any perceived risk over her lifetime from radiation exposure during the scan was outweighed by the risk of not diagnosing a serious condition.

It's done its job and she doesn't have one of those serious conditions; had it been the case that it did show up something that needed treating urgently, you wouldn't be second-guessing yourself now, you'd be upset/scared/relieved and grateful that your concerns and her symptoms had been taken seriously.
