To think that in the current climate stopping benefits should be easier

I've recently had a change in circumstances and no longer need to claim carers allowance.

I informed the DWP of the change in circumstances a month ago and they have paid it into my account today, even though I am not entitled to it and I have informed them of the change.

I understand that it takes time to process changes but this is massively inconvenient to me as well as I will, presumably, need to refund overpayments even though I have told them.

Surely there should be an 'off switch' and then an email to confirm that that was your intention?

With all of the talk of benefit cuts I find it astonishing that it's not easier to just end benefits if you want to .

Just a bit of a rant and can anyone tell me whether I now need to phone them, I had a confirmation of my change of circumstances request when I submitted it a month ago?

YNBU. Should be very easy. But that’s government for you!

You’ve had the confirmation- no need to phone and take up someone’s time when they could be hitting the off switch.

Keep calling them, and prepare for them to take the money back eventually. I called twice (admittedly a few years ago now) and it got stopped - heard nothing for 6 months and then got an extremely arsey letter demanding repayment, pending an investigation for fraud.

I mean that is just madness.

The cost of all of that when you had notified.

I contacted the relevant agencies to stop my carers and my son's PIP. The PIP stopped immediately but the carers was paid the next month. I now waiting to see what happens this month. My son is still entitled to PIP on the days/weekends he comes home from supported living so I am now going to have to chase that up.
